I think it’s interesting in a profession where we all take an oath, that they would look at people who have strong faith as somehow not good people, when, if you’re an atheist, what does an oath mean? If you are a Christian and you believe in god, what is an oath? . . . You’ve taken an oath to God. . . . [religion or faith] enhances your view of the oath.

So if I, as an atheist, take an oath in court to tell the truth, then I can't be charged for perjury if I lie, seeing how the oath is meaningless?
Jimmy Carter has used the pre-1954 Pledge of Allegiance - sans 'Under God' - which is still valid.
He is a devout Southern Baptist.
Unless your subjective view is that of everyone else's I guess America isn't the 'Christian Nation' you claim it is, OP.
When there's 30,000+ denominations of such out there: and you're prepared to admit that Quakers & Unitarian Universalists are as Saved as you are, enjoy your paradox.

So they're gonna have to find a Quran sharpish if the person is a Muslim, then.
What if the person is a $cientologist , Judgie-boy...?!
Besides, a certain case in late 2005 - Kitzmiller vs. Dover: and presided over & decided against by a Conservative Christian judge - proved that when even the Bible itself isn't admissible as evidence in a court of law, therefore ...!
So...this doesn't count?
Matthew 5:33-37 King James Version (KJV)
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Yes, that would be SUPREME COURT JUSTICE Clarence Thomas, suggesting that oaths only count for religious people...
But then again, Clarence Thomas is a big believer in the patriarchy-ruled Dominionist Christian State idea... And appears as a guest speaker at Republican & Evangelical events, despite being a Supreme Court Judge who isn't supposed to be DOING that sort of thing...
In politics, atheists take the oath for the people they are about to serve; promising to work for them.
In a court, atheists promise the court to tell the truth without the help of an imaginary friend.
If you need the fear of a supreme being in order to be good, you're not really a good person.
Most atheists are good because we genuinely WANT to be good; that's our nature.

*insert generic Thomas photo here wher, as always, he looks so dour*
I'd trust oath from atheist than right wing Christian. The atheist might pity me or condescend as I have spiritial beliefs, may not. Right Wing Christian(tm)would villify and make thinky veiled implications of my being evil to justify hating, or being biolent towards me
Confused?
