"The other reason I'm uncomfortable is because I'm worried that the OP might actually be prejudiced against white people, in which case they're not just impeding progress, they're pushing it back."
Wow, so if someone makes a statement that accurately reflects the fact white people perpetuate most racism in America, that makes *them* racist and supposedly undermines efforts to fight racism. That's all kinds of fucked up and wrong right there (not to mention it's an interpretation completely unsupported by anything in the actual quote)
The context of this quote is about people who dismiss the experiences of black people who are the targets of racism. White people are, by far, the most common people to do this. I'm sorry reality hurts your feelings.
What you're doing right here is actually part of the problem and why things like that previous FSTDT entry (the one with 10 bullet points about how not to be a shitty white person) exists.
You're putting a burden on the oppressed group to only discuss their oppression on your terms and with your terminology or else you won't discuss it (or worse, you'll try to sidetrack it with this whiny 'you're only hurting your own cause' BS that you've already tried to pull twice in this thread alone)
You can only get away with this refusal because their oppression doesn't affect you. You have no dog in the fight. Why does it matter to you if actual racism doesn't get addressed solely because black people didn't phrase themselves just right and hurt your feelings? It doesn't. It's not your kids or sisters or fathers that will continue to be murdered by the very people who should protect them. It's not you who will continue to face greater economic burden, worse health prospects, and greater mental/psychological strain.
You, sir (and/or madam), are part of the problem.
