Nope. Not offended.
Do you really think our objection to statues honoring Robert E. Lee is because his name was Lee, and not because HE FOUGHT TO PRESERVE SLAVERY?! Or do you think we're too dumb to tell one Lee from another? If so, are you taking us for total fools because you're looking for company?
"Do you really think our objection to statues honoring Robert E. Lee is because his name was Lee, and not because HE FOUGHT TO PRESERVE SLAVERY?!"
Or that because his last name was Lee, EVERYTHING with 'Lee' in it is deemed offensive?
The guy who developed this image actually found it funny and relevant when it's just...neither. it's kinda pathetic, actually, but he clearly tried hard so his progress report for this day is marked with a smiley face.
A couple of food brands, an actor/martial arts expert & a clothing company weren't responsible for a war over Slavery.
Does my not being offended by your most pathetic of attempts to offend me, offend you ?
Good.
Only retards are reduced to piss-poor name-based non-sequiturs such as this.
...okay...
*backs slowly away*
Even IF one of these pictures would show General Lee or a statue of him I wouldn't be offended. I would just tell you (talking to the OP here) that we shouldn't have statues of people who fought for slavery. Even Lee himself was against putting up statues for him, since he seemingly was a rational guy and not a sour loser like most of the confederate wannabes today.
Hm, I'd love to know how you would react to me saying that. Perhabs by being "triggered"? Oh who cares.
carefull, bad joke ahead
Hey, give us some leeway! (bdum, ching, rimshot) image
That whole meme just goes to show how totally weak the bigots' arguments are.
BTW, while Lee was hardly punished after the Confederate Terrorist Insurgence (some call it the Civil War), he was never pardoned during his lifetime and was never again a citizen of the United States. His citizenship was restored, with a full pardon, in 1975 by President Ford. So this whole time, folks have been worshiping a traitor, who by rights should have be put in front of a firing squad. My grandmother was from Georgia (*1896). For her, Lee was a god.
Offended - No
Baffled as to what this is supposed to mean - Yes
I'm not a "Libtard", I'm a socialist; can that be why I don't get it?
Edit. Oh, I had the wrong nationality; that explains it. Wasn't General Lee rather reluctant in his fighting the non-treasonous side? That's what I get from his Wikipedia Page.
We have stupid shit like this in Sweden too. Some neo-Nazis got it into their head that the statue of one of our war kings, Karl XII, was going to be removed. They formed a drunken vigilante, protecting the poor heap of copper.
Actually, this should be retitled: How to be idiotically clueless. If you truly believe that the name "Lee" drives anyone into an offended fury calling you an idiot is being generous.
That cake is gross, by the way.
The man's name does not offend anyone. Hell his status as a Confederate general isn't even the problem despite them being either enemies of what became the United States of America if you consider the Union and Confederacy individual entities as precursors or traitors to it depending on your point of view. It's what you make him represent devoid of factual concern or context that's the issue. You've completely warped the history of the United States to suit your own narrative and used this name and image to promote bigotry and treason.
If you are so infantile as to think this makes sense then you're really not fit to make any sort of political statement. Leave it to the adults.
Presumably I'm also supposed to be offended by things and people named Davis, Johnston or Cooper. Why, are you offended by things named Lincoln, Sherman or Grant?
@ pip
The OP is butthurt about the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general who has been idolized by neocons and turned into their own personal racist Jesus for no particularly convincing reason other than being a competent leader on the battlefield. Interestingly while Lee's name is on all of their lips maybe one in fifty could name two other Confederate leaders and none will recall urging reconciliation with the Union.
The four captions all reference the name Lee. Evidently they believe this is somehow enough to upset people.
Uh, what?
Oh, Robert E. Lee. I see. Sort of.
Ye gods, these people are stupid.
Confused?
