You are wrong about eternal Hell. The length of a persons crime is not the measure of his punishment. It is, rather, the nature of the one against whom it was perpetrated. Eternal conscious torment is the only appropriate penalty for even one sin against an infinitely Holy, incomprehensibly Just, and indescribably Righteous God.
As you rightly admit, the Scriptures do teach of unending torment in a place call Hell. One has to distort the plain meaning of the Bible to come away with another doctrine. May God the Holy Spirit open your eyes to the Truth.?

In the same breath, calls his deity "infinitely Holy, incomprehensibly Just, and indescribably Righteous" while just having said that said deity is so petty it sends people to be tormented for an eternity just because it's fragile ego is soooooo easily offended.

Dude, this is exactly the reason why so many people are turning away from you and your religion. No being could possibly be just and righteous in any way if deems its own ego more important than genuine, proportional justice. No god that's like that is worthy of worship.

The god you describe is an evil, sick, twisted monster. Plain and simple. If it was truly righteous, it would only care how we affect each other by our actions, not itself. If it was truly righteous, it would fight sin by rooting out and curing the disease instead of punishing people for displaying symptoms.

Besides, your logic does not make sense. If god is eternal, than no crime commited against it by a mortal, however severe, would have a lasting impact. Compared to eternity, everything is merely nothing. So, in short, by your reasoning, no sin should be punished by god. Because no sin would ever be able to hurt god as much as it hurts us.

Look, this quote disgusts me sooo much, that I really feel a massive rant coming up inside of me. But since I'm neither in the mood to do it, nor am I able to find the right words at the moment, I'm not doing it. Just know that I really hate it if people genuinly claim we should worship the most evil, vile, inhumane, sadistic, selfish monster there is and that we are good doing so. It says a lot about themselves too.

According to Fundamentalist Christianity (both regular and frummy); Hell/Gehenna (The Christian Inferno) is the default destination for the human soul due to having a "Sin Nature". "Hell" isn't a punishment for any crime but simply the result of existing without Christian Salvation.

Yes; That sounds awful. I agree. It is also a bogus invention based on mistranslation and social control.

However; The original texts do NOT say it's eternal. Therefore; The stuff mentioned above is simply an invention of the Early Church to scare people into the pews.

Eternal Damnation is an exclusively Conservative Christian invention. Other, older religions have some version a Paradise & Inferno as well....

* The Greco/Romans had Tartarus (Hell), Hades (Bland Afterlife for most) & Elysium (Heaven for the really awesome).
* Hinduism has The Swargas (7 Heavens), The Patalas (7 lower levels for the more 'fleshly'-inclined), and The Narakas (The Hells. Though the different sects and Puranas can't seem to decide on how many levels. I personally think it should be 7 levels to match the Swargas and Patalas since they also match up with the 7 Main Chakras....or energy centers....in the body.).
* Buddhism (well, the more spiritual varieties) has stuff like the 8 Hot Narakas, 8 Cold Narakas, 8 Heavens (Tibetans believe there's 5), Shambhala (Like Heaven or a Heavenly State), The Pure Land (Heavenly realm in Pure Land Buddhism).

There's more and most take on a "Hell is a temporary Purgatorial thing" approach.

Judaism is mostly mum about the hereafter (they simply refer to the After-Death sate as Sheol). Islam varies between "Temporary" and "Eternal".

What was my point in all this? Well....The "Hell is temporary" crowd is more numerous and has more seniority therefore the "Hell is eternal" crowd, like the OP, here is preaching pure "Bantha Poodoo". Even the earliest Christianity didn't buy it. In the original Koine Greek, it simply said Hell was a temporary stay and they may even have been open to the concept of Reincarnation.

It seems all faiths were less stupid in their Salad Days and they tended to be less complicated and bigoted. The earliest Christianity was proto-Feminist. The earliest Hinduism was more egalitarian concerning Women, The Castes, etc....

I think if folks want these religions to stick around; They need to embrace Reason as well as Faith, adapt with the times and start all over again fresh and look to the earliest days.

The Gospel of Luke has the story of Lazarus, which does mention the Rich Man being in eternal torment after death. For some weird reason, Hell is referred to as Hades in this particular story, but it's likely the same thing. I know there are Christians who don't believe in that kind of Hell, but I'm not sure what the rationalization is regarding the Gospel of Luke, which seems pretty clear about it.

I'm not Christian myself (am agnostic), and the concept of Hell is not something I could ever really convince myself was just. The idea that we're all sinners who don't deserve salvation is pretty easy to accept. I'm not a particularly good person, and a lot of my motivations are selfish. But I don't really think anyone deserves eternal torment.

Even in the case of someone like Hitler... what would the point really be? Does the torment somehow undo the evil he committed? No, it doesn't. Does it make him a better person? No, it doesn't matter. So it just seems like cruelty for its own sake.

But for traditionalist Christians, there's also the idea that God is absolutely just, and that anything He does reflects this. It leads to this weird situation where whatever God does is good, regardless of how it looks. Commanding Abraham to sacrifice his son might be an example of this. As humans, we cannot understand His plan, so we must accept it on faith.

Which I guess is fine, but I can't really bring myself to worship or follow a being that would allow anyone to suffer forever. And that's still jumping the gun, since I can't even convince myself that God exists. He's interesting to think about, though.
