Astrology topmost science, ancient sage did nuclear test: BJP MP Pokhriyal's gems of wisdom

The controversy over Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's statements is still to die down but BJP MP and former chief minister of Uttarakhand Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has stirred up a fresh one by claiming in Parliament that astrology is a superior form of science dwarfing everything else.

"All streams of science are dwarfed in stature when compared with the science of astrology. Astrology is the number one science for the entire world," he said.

The minister's statments came during a debate in the Lok Sabha on a legislation to give more powers to the School of Planning and Architecture.

During the debate, Pokhriyal also claimed that nuclear tests are not new to India. According to Pokhriyal, in ancient India sage Kanad conducted the first nuclear test.

The Indian Express quoted the BJP MLA as saying:

"Lakhs of years ago, Sage Kanad had conducted a nuclear test. Our knowledge and science do not lack anything."

Pokhriyal also revisited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on genetic science's existence in ancient India and agreed with it.

"People raised questions on Modiji’s comments on Ganesh’s surgery. It was actually a surgery. The science or knowledge to transplant a severed head existed only in India," Pokhriyal said during the debate in Lok Sabha, reported Zee News .

The minister was not only criticized for his comments which undermined science but members of Left, Congress and Trinamool Congress came down heavily on the former CM.

While the opposition and other parties were up in arms against the statement made by Pokhriyal, the BJP MP stuck to his stand and said there should be a proper discussion on the subject and astrology "should get the respect it deserves."

Astrology DOES get "the respect it deserves". It's an idle pastime (for the very stupid) with no validity, therefore it actually gets MORE respect than it deserves. Perhaps you need a head transplant.

NASA/JPL got Lockheed Martin's InSight lander on Mars so precisely, it worked better than even they could have imagined.

Considering the Mars orbiter sent by India several years ago, please tell us why Astrology - as opposed to the exact science of Astronomy so precisely demonstrated by NASA the other day - should be respected...?!

Better not use a smartphone then, Rammy-boy: even one made by Oppo in India.

All those telecommunications satellites put up there without a single scrap of woo you think has the right to a subatomic particle amount of 'respect'.

Why is it that we respect Arthur C. Clarke: and not you...?!

I always find these statements hilarious, since astrology is the only occult pseudoscience I know of that can actually be disproven entirely.

So the astrologists say that the celestial bodies have an influence on our fate. This influence must be some kind of "force", be it supernatural or natural. The natural forces can all be safely rejected, only gravity has the necessary range and it is so weak that the doctor's gravity during your birth has more influence on you then that of any star.

So it must be a supernatural force then. In that case it can't be a ranged force, since that would mean that the sun as the closest star should have the biggest influence on our life, but it rarely if at all appears in astrology. So it must be either an equally distributed force (in that case every stellar body would have the exact same influence on us, negating astrology again) or it is disconnected from the actual stars and distributed according to the individual person as if it was (which would make astrology pointless, since the stars itself don't actually have any meaning, negating the main hypothesis of astrology and denying astrologists the possibility of making any predictions).

And... nothing remains. Neither supernatural nor natural forces can be used to explain astrology. It's worthless even for an occult idea. Absolutely pointless too.

India never fails to disappoint. That they managed to develop a sufficient understanding of nuclear physics to make The Bomb when they can barely manage a deep enough understanding of biology to figure out that bathing & drinking from a river filled with human shit, corpses and industrial runoff is a bad idea is baffling. Either nuclear science is deceptively simple or the rest of the world is made up of biology savants.

@Bob Sandvagine

Let me make it clear that your statements are racist and degrading and I hope I'm not the only one saying that they have no place here. Generalizing these statements to all Indians (mind you, that's more than a billion people you are trying to judge at the same time) is just asinine. I'm also pretty sure that Indians who actually really don't see much choice in these matters. It has nothing to do with their understanding of biology or their implied stupidity. I don't know where your irrational hate for Indians stems from, but I'd suggest thinking about it.
