What do you atheist fucks do when someone you love is really sick or
injured? When your children come down with something that is so serious
that you fear for their coming out of it ok, do you just sit there and
worry? Do you go through your whole lives with no faith, never feeling so
alone and down that you never feel a want for help? Are you so cocky that
you think just because things have been ok so far that you'll never need
some extra help?

And I still don't believe any of you who say that when death is eminent like
if you are falling from a tall building that you wouldn't call out to God to

When someone I love is sick, I learn to deal with it. This is not saying that I don't fear for them, or cry, or rage, or babble incoherently because of my grief but I eventually I come to a point of understanding, acceptance and (hopefully) peace.
IMO this is the power/curse of the human condition. We are constantly set upon by things we don't understand, doubts and grief and all manner of problems. We suffer, but we have the capability to rise above it, and maybe even be better for it. I think that if there is a god, that's what he would like us to do. Not blind faith and certainly not raging against those who happen to be different than us, like Mr. Popinjay.

I have often wondered what it must be like to be so gullible and scared. Is every moment a whole new awareness, as with a small child that sees the possibilities of the miraculous and the disastrous in every new experience? Or is it like the life of a beaten puppy, anxious to please but resentful that it will never be the leader?

This is what I don't get about this site...first how is a gambling site 'fundie'? No real Christian would use the 'f' word either...you guys need to be smarter then this and realize guys like this are just baiting you and he isn't even a Christian. Anyone can say they are a Christian you know...that doesn't mean they are. No where in the bible does it say we are to be outright hateful to nonbelievers let alone swear at them like this. I would bet if he were asked some basic commonly known Christian beliefs he couldn't answer them. What I don't get is why get someone's quotes on the net and debate them on here when that person will probably never see your comments so can't be influenced to change their views? What is the point of that? If you want to make a difference and share your ideas and thoughts with others why not post directly to them? I mean if someone has posted some really off the wall things...why not correct their views? Show them the holes in their ideas so they can learn and realize what they said doesn't make sense.
Its like if our newspaper reports something incorrectly how would they ever know if someone didn't point it out to them? People just talking to each other about it changes nothing and makes no difference. Its kind of like expecting change in things while talking to the air...and to me, that makes no sense at all. And it makes no sense to me to gripe about things but make no effort to change it...

Well let's see, when someone I love is sick or injured, I try to collect as much money as I can, to ensure that I can help pay for the best possible care. I did that with two close friends, one who was stabbed six times, and one who was run down by a hit-and-run driver. The money I managed to raise helped more than anyone's prayers.
And as for my own death? I nearly drowned at a beach in California. I spent the night in the hospital, having sucked down so much saltwater that my mother dragged my unconscious body from the water and given me CPR herself. And I never once asked any god for help. I screamed for help from people, which didn't come (except for that of my mom). So...you're wrong. Your turn.

If they actually read the Bible, many of them wouldn't be Christians, much less fundies. That said, I'm afraid the Bible does have parts that tell not only to hate but also to murder the unbelievers. Mostly in the OT, but it's there.

In response to the first comment. I worked in childcare. Those kids weren't even my own, and I got worried if they were even late for a day. If they got hurt, I was the first one there to help them. I'm just glad nothing life-threatening happened, Because I'm sure I would have been a wreck if it did.

And hey, since you don't give a fuck about me...Don't come crying when you forgot to enjoy your life.

How do I deal with adversity, or pain, or even the death of a loved one?

With dignity and personal strength. I give them my own well-wishes, I give them my own presence, and I most surely will rely on proper medical care over any prayer based quackery. When all else fails? I do what I can to offer comfort, conversation and companionship.

My mother passed on two years ago surrounded by family and friends. Do you know who the disruptive sullen influence was? The sole devout Christian, muttering insanely about her soul, rather than offering her any succour on her own.

You would do well to develop a spine of your own. Imaginary friends don't hold up forever.

You run to the fucking hospital and take full advantage of all modern medicine, science , and technology (mostly invented by us godless athiests, mind you) instead of praying to your 'all-powerful' pixie in the sky to save you? Why the fuck is that?? If your sky pixie is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent, and bestowing favors on those that are 'saved', why do bad things happen to those that 'believe' in the magic sky pixie?? ...I get out my mobile phone, and call for a doctor/ambulance/Air Ambulance helicopter/RAF Air-Sea Rescue helicopter/Coastguard/RNLI/you name it. Meanwhile, I stay with the ill/injured person, and if needed, administer First Aid.

Why, what would you do? Because - as I would expect someone else to do the same for me, should I be in that situation - thus I do the same for others.

PROTIP: Medecins Sans Frontieres. Doctors/surgeons/nurses etc - who give of their time & expertise voluntarily, to provide medical services to those in Third World countries who otherwise can't afford hospital treatment, or where such is nonexistent (especially in conflict situations; Syria, for one). MSF is a purely secular operation.

Poppy, there's these lovely people called doctors who work at places called hospitals. If someone is injured or hurt, you can take them there. You can even dial a 3 digit number to summon someone to take them to a hospital if you can't do it yourself or think they need field help right away. (It's 911 in the US, 999 in Great Britain and 112 in most of continental Europe.)

There are also these nice people called fire fighters who have giant air bags they can use to catch someone who falls. If I were falling from a tall building, air bag or no, I would most likely be screaming out some obscenities rather than ask a god who isn't there to help.

We have usually gone to the hospital.
Where we see a doctor, some nurses, maybe some specialists, a technician or two.
Sometimes we see a chaplain. They say they'll pray for us.
Buuuuuut, at the end, we've been pretty sure that it was the doctors, not the prayer, that fixed what was suboptimal.
