Quote# 26976

I Timothy 2:9 - "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array."

The word "apparel" here is from the Greek word "katastole" which means "a long flowing garment. " So, this verse tells ladies to wear a long, flowing garment. That is what modest is, long and flowing. Pants are quite definitely NOT long and flowing. Pants do not flow. I have never yet seen a pair of pants that flow. Therefore, even if "long," they do not qualify as a long flowing garment. And since they are not a long flowing garment, they are not a katastole. Katastole is translated modest. Therefore, if a modest garment is a long flowing garment, and pants do not flow, pants are not modest.

Funny, that's not what the concordances I checked said.

Pants can flow. It depends on the cut of the pant. A woman like Debbie who claims to be the domestic type, who therefore sews, should know that.

Of course, her arguement and interpretation is wrong anyways.

So you do think that all Xians should live in wooden hovels and heathen huts because no want to be "Modest" or show off their wealth. And e guilty of the sin of greed or glunty .
After all there were no condos or town houses or luxury apartments. back then either. Perhaps all you fundies should ride either donkeys or horses to church and to worker becasue after all there wasn't any automobiles back in the good old of Jesus . And by all mean don't forget to wear your long flowing garment . Pant are not allowed .

I thought the KJV was inerrant in all ways and any other translations, even originals, were unworthy.

So why can't I just take the KJV at face value and enjoy comfortable, modest pants?

You are a strange one.

Bellbottoms, bitch-face.

Yes indeed, ladies, show your feminine shame to the world! If it's not in your slave handbook, and you can extract both shame and guilt from it, go for it! It's worth hebbin points!

I could probably convincingly argue that means they need to wear Bikinis at all times using rules of interpretation borrowed from lets say, only ten different sects of Christianity all mixed together.

Alternately, hammer pants.

Oh brother, Timothy again.

I can't believe someone would spend that much time arguing against pants. See, if I argued against pants, people would ignore me. They whine how it's nasty and wrong and how they don't want to see my hairy cock. It's sexism, I tell ya. Sheesh! some people...

Mom The Dragon

Come on, get real Mrs. Debbie! The Bible also states that women should cover their head, but that went out LONG LONG ago. Yes, some still cover their hair (Amish, Mennonite), but most MAINSTREAM legitimate religions put that aside years ago.

My husband is proud of my legs and "allows" me to wear short skirts and shorts and other garments that show my legs.

There are pants that are flowing and cover to the ankles. Mrs. Debbie, wear what you want, but don't preach to the rest of us. We are adults and can wear whatever we want. Get a life lady!

The Watcher

Doesn't Bro. Stinky always say "We do not 'interpret' the Bible! We just do what it says!"?

So what's all this sinful "interpreting" Mrs. Debbie keeps doing?

7/5/2007 8:25:29 PM

What the fuck is it with these people and women wearing pants?
Oh wait,i know Randy likes his teen girls to have easier acess to the goodies.

7/5/2007 8:26:37 PM

Pretty much everyone wore "long, flowing garments" back in those days. The root word in katastole, "stole", referred to a man's robe. A "katastole" is a "stole" that comes down; i.e., a modest garment that cover them. Mrs. Debbie made the "flowing" part up herself. It just says women shouldn't wear short dresses. The passage doesn't address the issue of pants because they really weren't worn by either sex back in those days. Anyone who says the Bible forbids pants on women is making that up themselves, not getting it from the scriptures.

Old Viking

Pants bad. Gotcha. Any other important issues you'd like to cover today?

7/5/2007 9:03:07 PM

Its a scandal I tell you. Debbies tryin to make sure they all wear dresses for the upcomin bible study. That way when they drink from the cup of christ (with the GHB handily inserted) bro randy will have quick and easy access to their sweet juicy fragrant little cunts. I bet Debbie cant wait to lick the juices off his dick of all that ooshy gushy pre-teen luv slop. Its a conspiracy I tell ya. Some1 call the feds. Save the children from these monsters.

I think in this context apparel just means any sort of clothing, at which point, you're a god damn idiot.

7/5/2007 9:30:06 PM

I would have said that to her, but she closed before i could respond =P.

7/5/2007 10:09:48 PM

Yeh right, and men should wear a toga!

Toga! TOGA! Toooogaaah!

7/5/2007 10:35:17 PM

but if you wear pants that don't flow, men might be able to see the outline of teh dirty vagina and get sinful thoughts.

7/5/2007 10:45:45 PM

Oh, Jesus. Save me from your anal-retentive followers.
