Those religions are often forced upon people and they don't have the choice.

Do Buddhists have missionaries? Hindus? Muslims?
Whatever the answer is, the protestant missionaries are in direct competition with the catholic ones for the record for forced conversions.
Funny then how adult Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims still exist in a plural society where no one forces them to be anything.
Oh wait, that's because they were brainwashed as kids, right? Unlike you. Your parents never made mention of God around you, right?
So obviously if they did have the choice, they would have picked Christianity? Whatever.
Christianity was forced upon my ancestors, just so you know. Settlers came to Canada, forced my ancestors into schools, made them learn English, then forced them to learn Christianity and forget all the old ways they had followed for thousands of years. When my grandfather returned home to his Indian reservation, he no longer spoke Mohawk because they beat him whenever he spoke it, causing him to return home to a family he couldn't even communicate with. Just thought you should know.
While it is hypocritical for a Christian to complain about forced conversions in another religion, Buddhist and Hindus force people in their countries to join their religions all the time. They are not peaceful, tolerant religions and are just as violent as Christianity.
It always brings a tear to my eye whenever I read about the horrors inflicted upon the Native North (and Central and South) Americans by the white man, whether it be in the name of their god or their king.
Amanda > Inan3
Mohawks > Cross-tians
Unlike Christianity which waits until people are adults before being introduced to their indoctrinations...... oh wait.....
Anyway I was raised Christian, went Buddhist on my own, have never looked back. Explain that one.
I dunno about you, but personally, the only religion I've ever had pushed on my was some form or Christianity or other.
Amazingly enough, I'm not Christian.
Even if this logic (or whatever the appropriate term is) were reasonable, that still does not explain it.
How exactly is it again that you don't have a choice in a religion?
Even if legally you had to be of a certain religion in a country, you could either move, die, or go the Christian way, say you're one thing, but do (or think) whatever the hell you want anyway
The inquisition
here we go
the inquisition
what a show...
Hmmm...seems somebody missed a history class or two...Cortez, anyone? Pizarro? How about the Spaniards who established the missions in California?
Or do you really think that all those native North and South Americans came to Christianity (and slavery) by choice?
Yeah, I remember when I decided to get Christened into Catholicism. I was only a few weeks old but I was of course able to make a sound level headed judgement about which church I should join. I remember being taught almost every day of my school life right from the first about how the God of the Bible is watching over us and how He'll punish those of us who are naughty. Yup, that'd be a terrible thing to force on someone but thankfully they never do that.
@ lumax
"I'm so tired of people coming to my door, leaving tracts on my car - I even find them in public restrooms."
Well, at least in the public restrooms you can put them to use...
I find this to be a dubious statement, as I was "born" Christian under my parents, who are themselves now agnostic, and then I was agnostic for a while, but have recently (at age 21) become interested in Buddhism, which itslef states that one doesn't need to be "just a Buddhist", but can aspire to spiritual fulfillment and enlightenment while practicing other beliefs and religions (like Christianity, Islam, etc.)
Do you think that Christianity/Judaism/Islam would have ever gone as far as it has if there weren't any REAL and credible experiences and events in people's lives?)
Those religions are often forced upon people and they don't have the choice.
fixed... at least a bit better
even though those religions were historically very cool about you believing otherwise to them. Buddhism especially is cool with all beliefs, as long as they are peaceful.
Oh and remember Ann Coulter, well didn't she say that we should kill Muslim leaders and convert the people to cristianity?
okay, I have read all of these things and I find them all stupid, okay i believe people should have the right to pick a religion that fits their style without BS from people, also all religion is forced upon people due to who they were raised by or where they come from. so we cant fuss or say anything against what they believe.
I think before people get together and judge what a person says they should actually hear ALL that that person said. I was specifically talking about Islam and if you don't think that it is VERY often FORCED upon people than you aren't up on current events. Why don't you check out the way children are brainwashed to hate in some Islam countries or the way that women are treated. You can never show me where this has been the case in true christianity. I'm not talking about telling people about christianity and then they have the choice to believe it or not. That's not forcing if it were than so are these blogs. In other words "you are saying something I don't want to hear" (read in a high whiney voice)
BTW thanks EnemyPartyII I didn't know I was so important to your life that you had to use me as foder for your backstabbing!
Aren't all religions forced upon people while they are young, when they don't have a choice about what kind of world-view they are taught.
Only the ones who convert as adults really do have a choice in the matter.
Confused?
