If you add up how many people die from weapons of mass destruction, a gift from science. Or how many people die from perscription drugs, again a gift from science. So who is to say without the contribution of science more people would not live a longer life.

Any of the 245 more infants in every 1000 who make it to their first birthday?
Any of the 22% of gastric cancer sufferers who go on to complete remission through chemotherapy?
Anybody who made it past the historical average life expectancy of 35 years?
Anybody with at least half a brain?
"how many people die from weapons of mass destruction"
Zero?
"how many people die from perscription drugs"
The ones who abuse them?

Anybody who has ever visited a hospital?
Weapons of Mass Destruction is a terrible thing. Not all inventions are good inventions. Not all inventors are happy with their inventions, look at the Nobel price. But most inventions have helped people, made life easier, and some have saved millions of lives.
More people are helped by prescription drugs than those who die from them, I guess.
And where does science end? The wheel, the knife, the mill, these are things that Knowledge has brought forth, are these bad too?
Aha, so they where just there, presented to man. How could I not have seen that?
Damn, now the irony meter turned on again...
My grandfather was the coroner for Caribou County. One day he showed me a map of the cemetery with the ages of the deceased.
He taught me how often babies died in infancy, right up until vaccines became a Thing. You should look it up.
And, yes, science gave us nukes. Politicians used them. Just like the invention and use of planes, bombs, bullets, better bullets, bigger bullets, HONKING big bullets, and tank shells. Oh, and tanks.
Ever use the internet? That’s a science invention.
Ever use GPS? That was developed for use in aiming weapons to minimize civilian casualties.
Ever put food in storage and NOT DIE of food poisoning a couple says later? Science.
Did you know that the entire Freeway System was built for national defense? Moving troops swiftly to challenged areas? And a LOT of science was involved in creating that.
Confused?
