I must have missed that example Ed and I'm sorry, but I did say this earlier and I'll repeat it here. Scientists in a lab have effectively slowed down and even stopped light. With that being said, there is no way to accurately assume the speed of light is a constant around the universe. Light could be slowing down or speeding up, or for all we know even stopped in the universe. It's fact that speed of light can be manipulated, so to assume it stays constant is only an assumption at best.
