America is a Christian Nation. With the exception of some prankster (probably Jefferson, or maybe the Frenchified pervert Benjamin Franklin) having fun with the Treaty of Tripoli, all founding documents support the notion that America is a Christian Nation.

I already wrote this on the last post, but
doomie 22 _ This is a quote by Ixion, although there is a user called 'attendingtheworld' that IS a fundie on there... but he's a Muslim fundie.
Also, 'attendingtheworld' did not even post on this board.

Provide the evidence, bitch.
Stop with the fore-father worshipping, ya damned fundyfuxtix. Perhaps USA was founded on Christian principles such as:
Genocide
Theft
and Slavery
Yes, we stole this land, we killed the people who lived here, and we forced a whole race of people into slave labor. Oh let's not forget the Christian principles that started this country with the notion of equal rights for everyone...well, ok, equal and voting rights for the rich, white men land owners.
[America is a Christian Nation.]
Still wrong. Did you read the text of the treaty? Article 11? For comprehension? The part that says that the US isn't a Christian nation?
[With the exception of some prankster (probably Jefferson, or maybe the Frenchified pervert Benjamin Franklin) having fun with the Treaty of Tripoli...]
It was ratified unanimously by Congress.
[...all founding documents support the notion that America is a Christian Nation.]
Please elaborate. Which documents are these, exactly?
Why does the Constitution itself specifically NOT mention Christianity?
"...all founding documents support the notion that America is a Christian Nation."
The constitution makes no mention of god, Jesus or Christianity. Do you think the founding fathers were merely careless by omitting these notions? Then consider Article VI, which clearly states that there shall be no religious test for public office. If the US is a "Christian Nation," why does the founding document allow equal access to public office for atheists and other non-Christians.
I think that Ixion has spent a bit too much time spinning on his wheel.
No, it's not "Christian Nation". Never has been. And repeating this lie that it is over and over won't make it true.
I challenge you to find one referral to Jesus Christ, or Christian in the Declaration of Independence, or Constitution.
And FYI, the Term "Year of our Lord" was used as a statement of date, not intent of religion.
Why is it that so many Americans find it necessary to justify their beliefs by citing the founding material of the USA? In many cases, not just this example, such citations are bogus, and then they resort to special pleading and Orwellian doublethink.
Ixion could say that the USA should be a "Christian Nation" - and I don't know what that means - and then describe what he would want to change. That could actually lead to useful discussion.
Or is this an identity problem? Are people identifying themselves with the USA's founders so strongly that they are willing to distort historical records to reflect their own beliefs rather than what actually happened?
Translation: I want America to be a Christian nation. Those responsible for making it otherwise were wrong.
Yeah, well. Live with it, dude.
