Revenge is a Dish Best Served... Stupid?

Because protesting the funeral of children who did nothing wrong is the perfect solution here.

Quote# 77667

A controversial Kansas church is changing its protest plan after an incident in Oklahoma last week.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church said they want revenge after someone slashed the tires on their van during visit to protest a military funeral in McAlester. The group said it plans to now target funerals for Oklahoma children.

The group said it planned to picket the funeral of an 8-year-old Burneyville girl who died in an accident at the Love County Fairgrounds last week, although no protesters were seen near the services. The group said it would be in Owasso on Thursday to protest the funeral of a girl who died in a car crash.

The Westboro Baptist Church's website now reads "God Hates Oklahoma" and "The Lord curses them by killing Oklahoma's children and casting them into hell. Thank God for more dead children in Oklahoma."

wow these people are just little children throwing a tantrum fit because the people they were bullying bullied back...

well, at least the website part is. Picketing the funeral of a little girl is psychopathic I think. Maybe we can have this whole church institutionalised?

"How DARE you inconvenience us? Taste steel, fiends!"

I'm all for free speech, but after they're done exercising their free speech, can we eat them? Thanks.

I'm surprised these trolls haven't been paid a visit by the /i/nvaders yet . . .

11/27/2010 6:58:48 AM

And just when I thought this church couldn't get more cookoo.

Actually no, this doesn't really surprise me at all.

"Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord; I will repay."

The question has to be asked, doesn't America have laws to protect the young, the elderly, the bereaved and the weak against self-righteous vampires? In my view, these people are aberrations. They have gone way beyond what religion is about. Therefore, they are not a religion. They are lunatics, albeit educated and clever ones, who should be locked in a sanitarium for their own health's sake, and for the good of the majoprity of sane people. Why is this not being done? I believe, if they could get away with it, they would be burning people at the stake for they have the slurry-tainted mind of the Inquisition.

Anyone who uses religion to harass and disadvantage those who are not of their persuasion are, at the least, public nuisances. Freedom of speech has its limits. These need to be clearly defined, for the sake of decency and the public good. Again in my view, these people and others, like a certain self-regarding media whore, go too far and bring that precious freedom into disrepute. And that shoud be the cut-off point where the limit should be defined. Oh, and don't forget the lunatic asylums too and the role they could play in protecting the innocent and restraining the nut cases. They would be an admirable means of protecting the limits of free speech and deterring those who abuse the goodness, grief and forebearance of fellow citizens.

Grief is a sacred thing and the civilized world respects it. So, the WBC is lucky that so far only their tyres have been slashed. This is a tribute par excellence to Americans' forebearance. But who can day...

Westboro is the violent ward for the theologically insane.

11/27/2010 7:06:03 AM

Please stop giving these turds attention. They're real-life trolls and just feed on people's antagonism towards them. Just starve them to death.

Churchy LaFemme

Gee, they're just having all kinds of problems with their protests.

That is just fucked up.

11/27/2010 7:16:28 AM

Hell's demons feed from the hate they receive!!!
Or at least they make it look like that.

11/27/2010 7:18:48 AM

There are no words strong enough to describe how inhuman this is. Fred Phelps is just plain un-christian.

11/27/2010 7:20:21 AM

What kind of human beings would do this?

Religion is great, right Mr Blair?

11/27/2010 7:27:34 AM

For the love of christ, how come this cunt is still drawing breath? Someone shoot him already.

11/27/2010 7:47:10 AM

The really sad part is that these freaks use their children to spread their disgusting "message". Alas Fred's daughter Shirley, his heir apparent, might be crazier and meaner than the old goat himself.

11/27/2010 7:50:51 AM

Oh, WBC. You always find new levels of douchebaggery.

11/27/2010 7:51:54 AM

Doubting Thomas

Wow, just when I thought Fred Phelps couldn't get any more stupid, vile or repulsive...

They make me ashamed to share the same state with them. Just for the record, not everyone from Kansas is a Christian whackaloon.

11/27/2010 7:58:34 AM

Although I agree with fighting back against the WBC, the one thing we don't need is for the people who oppose them to get arrested for something as silly as slashing tires.

11/27/2010 8:07:59 AM

Ok, now I truly want these people shot where ever they're seen, this is just so beyond disgusting.

But now we see the real people hidden behind the Bible. A real Christian would turn the cheek and let it go, these people want revenge.

11/27/2010 8:19:43 AM

Wow...God's needing less and less these days. Used to be, to kill the firstborns, he'd be doing it to get his "chosen people" out of slavery. Now...he's doing it because someone slashed these one of these guys' tires? Good lord, these people are so appallingly arrogant and petty, it's unbelievable.

Think Floyd

Just like Jesus!

11/27/2010 8:52:02 AM

> Thank God for more dead children in Oklahoma

What WBC thinks people think: "We're Pro-Life!"

What confused bystanders actually think: "These guys think killing children is fucking awesome? Right." *backawayslowly*

Activists of all kinds should make sure that people can easily see what they're advocating, and make sure the slogans cut to the essence and don't give the wrong impression. If you use sarcasm, then make sure people can see it's sarcasm and what your real point is. Otherwise, you end up advocating child murder. Thanks for providing examples for textbooks, WBC.

11/27/2010 8:52:20 AM

Yes, Serph-no-Okami, you are right, they are trolls.

But I respectfully disagree that we should just starve them out. I think what we should be doing is coming together and counter protesting them. My suggestion would be to use hymns and readings like the 'Sermon on the Mount' (Y'know... "Blessed be the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth" and "Judge not, lest you be judged"). Think of how the families would feel if we came together for them. Hell, even if we didn't know the people and never saw them again, I think it would be important to them to see that perfect strangers care enough about them as members of our society to stand up to these... ah fuck it, words fail me.

11/27/2010 8:55:11 AM

When I heard about the slashed tires, I thought they would play the smug self righteous martyrs
But they are even more stupid than I thought
Revenge?? Even Phelps should know that Christians don't seek revenge
Go ahead. Harass the funeral of an innocent
I'll look forward to witnessing the consequences
