I submit that contraception is the worst scourge to ever afflict mankind, the costliest by far in both blood and treasure, absolutely ruinness to women in particular and mankind in general. Since it’s acceptance, divorce rates have soared along with pornography, STD’s, homosexuality, exploitation of women, abortion, breast cancer and now government attacks on freedom of expression. Paul VI was particularly prescient in predicting government pressure in HUMANAE VITAE in explicating the Church’s beautiful teaching in this matter.
Using contraception in the marital act is akin to flipping a hand grenade with the pin pulled into the heart of a marriage.

How can fewer pregnancies lead to more abortions?
Also, the final paragraph may be the worst analogy
ever.
Are we then to understand that contraception leads to really explosive sex?... And my great-grandmother, fairly early in the Nineteenth Century, was divorced and then married my great-grandfather, with whom she had eight children, on which evidence I'd say there's a disconnect in your alleged logic.

And I submit that you're a fucking moron. WWII ring a fucking bell? How about the An Lushan Rebellion or the Mongol Conquest? The Black Plague killed more than all three of the wars I mentioned COMBINED. And you think condoms and birth control pills are worse? The only way that works is if you think that every sperm is sacred. I've got news for you: "Every Sperm is Sacred" was a PARODY meaning that it was meant to show how ridiculous anti-contraceptive people are. It was NOT meant to be taken as a serious argument, but the fact that you did shows how utterly moronic your stance is.

Oh because couples absolutely HATE having sex unless they're farting out 100 kids. </sarcasm> I've got more news for you: most people no longer work on farms so they don't need more than 3 or 4 kids and most settle on 1 or 2. Unless we want every city in the world to be more crowded than Tokyo within 20 years, we need couples to use contraception. Oh, and contraception ELIMINATES the need for abortion, which WOULD be a win for pro-lifers as well as rational people but you've for some reason decided to be a moron and oppose those, too.
There have been condoms for thousands of years. People have known about herbs that prevent pregnancies for much longer than that.
Using contraception in the marital act is akin to deciding for oneself when to have children, and how many one wants. That is all.
The introduction of contraceptive pills were one of the most important corner-stones in women's liberation. Which is probably why you guys hate it so much. Women could now have sex for fun, just like men have always been (more of less) able to do. Which means men are getting more of it too. Before, people abstained from having sex if they didn't want kids, or did it in ways that did not result in pregnancies.
If you can use safe contraceptives, the risk of abortions lessens, not increases, stupid.
The divorce rate went up when women started to have their own income, and were able to support themselves. Before that they had to stay in loveless, perhaps abusive, marriages, because they had nowhere to go.
The Catholic Church leads the way in anti-contraception methods. The Catholic Fathers have devised a method of releasing their semen without getting a woman pregnant. So far, it's a fairly secretive method that hasn't yet caught on among the general populace, though we do know it involves choir boys and orphanages.
Unbelievable. The world is wrought by wars, poverty, bigotry, general hatred, despotism, and irrationality, and you think the worst thing ever to happen is contraception?! You have no respect for human life. You have just spit on all the starving children in Africa (and elsewhere) who would love to live in a comfortable, First World society, but are denied that due to greed and hatred. And yet you think birth control is more important than improving people's lives?! I just can't believe you.
"I submit that contraception is the worst scourge" tl;dr...
The Paedophile Priests issue. Your argument - and your religion's doctrine - is invalid. The phrase 'Put your own house in order before criticising anyone else's actions'. It exists for a reason .
...BTW, is it just my sense of humour, or did I read:
"absolutely ruinness to women"
as 'absolutely runniness to women'? Paula Radcliffe , anyone...?! [/satire]
I love it when men, who are oppressing women, tell women that taking control of their own bodies is exploitation. Dear, your reality check has bounced on so many levels. I won't go into all of them, but will say that humans, and yes, women are human, have been using contraception since we figured out what causes pregnancy.
"I submit that contraception is the worst scourge to ever afflict mankind..."
I submit that religion is the worst scourge to ever afflict mankind. Impedes science, incites violence, discourages critical thinking, etc.
P.S. Riiigghht. There were almost no STDs before contraception and no one ever got breast cancer. Oh, and if Og had never learned to draw, pornography never would have been invented.
Big [citation needed] on all that, correlation =/= causation, etc., but I know you're not listening and will never listen to reason. Here's something else you won't listen to, Sparky: The vast majority of Catholic women use some form of birth control, and I'm not talking about your mandated "Natural Family Planning."
I think it's funny how Christians, and especially Catholics, are admitting that their god isn't all powerful and can be stopped by using a rubber device or taking a pill.
You misspelled "ruinous" and should have used "its".
What do you think is more costly and more likely to strain a marriage? Having more children than you can manage, or less sex with your spouse than you want to have, because you risk getting pregnant every time you have intercourse, or being able to control how many children you have and able to have sex without worries?
"Since it’s acceptance, divorce rates have soared along with pornography, STD’s, homosexuality, exploitation of women, abortion, breast cancer and now government attacks on freedom of expression."
Funny how contraception has been the root of these problems now, specifically after Sandra Fluke and the whole mess surrounding Rush Limbaugh.
"Since it’s acceptance, divorce rates have soared along with pornography, STD’s, homosexuality, exploitation of women, abortion, breast cancer and now government attacks on freedom of expression."
And the fact that it was very accepted back before the Roman Empire just means we've had all that shit going on for thousands of years... since we haven't had all that as bed as you seem to be making it out to be, I guess you are full of shit.
Imagine that... a Catholic making a claim that isn't true and is ignorant of the facts... I'm shocked.

Yet more "contraception causes STDs" nonsense."
And then, they wonder why the joke exists: 'Caution: 38% of people are caused by accidents.'
X3
Contraception= preventing people from being born. How is that "costly in blood and treasure"? Think how overpopulated the world would be if everyone got married at sixteen, and every time the man came, it HAD to be inside his wife and she HAD to have a child, which is what the Christians seem to want.
The other things listed are either nothing to do with contraception, existed before it, or, like STDs, are actively reduced by it.
Oh pish. When the first people entered Pompeii after its destruction by Mount Vesuvius they were astonished to discover the sheer amount of pornography; scrawled on walls, artfully depicted in mosaics and used as instructive diagrams in the city's many brothels. Brothels that actually outnumbered the bars.
And this was in 79 CE, which is concurrent with the writing of the New Testament or even considerably pre-dates it.
This is a huge pile of correlation not implying causation. So what if contraception is against the Church's will? That's why we live in a society and not in individual bubbles. Can you honestly say that you agree with everything your government has done? What with the torture in Gitmo and rendition of foreign nationals and all? If not, then you shouldn't pay taxes to support them either. You're only getting pissy about they particular violation of your beliefs because it's got 'God' involved.
This William J. Quinn is so far off it, I actually feel sorry for him.
It must be really awful to be him. And he has to put up with himself all day every day. Poor guy, that's terrible.
My mother has taken birth control pills since I was a very young child. Her relationship with my father is still strong and loving after nearly 30 years of marriage.
That's because this argument is full of shit.
Condoms prevent STD's and pregnancy. Nothing more.
Porno has and will always be sold because humans leik sexytimes.
Homosexuality...hmm...How about we let people be people, and not judge them because they like the same gender? Contraception doesn't really matter for a same sex relationship, unless one person is dirty or unknown and you want to protect yourself.
Exploitation of women...Yeah, no. Contraception actually goes against that, since it empowers women with the ability to choose who to fuck, how often, and if she wants kids or not.
Breast cancer? Really? Are you fucking retarded?
Wait, don't answer that...The answer is right there.
Wanna know something that's been cited as leading to increased divorces? Viagra. Yep, supported by the Catholic church and all, Viagra has been directly linked to increased divorces and STDs.
How about that? Oh, well, it's not like anyone thought the Pope or Catholic priests knew shit about anything anyway. Right? What? They did?!
Why?
Frank: I have a modest proposal that'll take care of all that.
If that grenade analogy has any validity at all (and it doesn't) then permanent sterilization must be like dropping an atomic bomb into a marriage. Yet mine survived my husband's vasectomy - in fact, it got even stronger. The only thing that could ruin it would be my being forced to take care of seven screaming brats alone because he was busy working three jobs to support us.
If parents have fewer children, they will have more money to give to the church.
Enjoy your cognitive dissonance Willy
