Quote# 9041

Erin, an OXYMORON is a phrase that seems to contradict itself. So, someone said "WOMAN PREACER". We know there are women out there who claim to be preachers, but we also know that a womand preacher is not Biblical. So, the phrase, "WOMAN PREACHER" is an oxymoron.

Does that help?

I think it would help if you moved your primitive ass into the 21st century.

A better example of an oxymoron would be 'christian science'.

Hmm. First of all, I'm pretty sure that the word \"preacher\" is never used in the Bible. At best, it would have been a Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic word that is consistently translated as \"preacher\".

Second, I have three words for the author of this post. \"No true Scotsman\"

Isn't a preacher just one who preaches? Then I'll have to give a big \"N-o\" to this argument. The Bible says good things about women preaching \"the good [hack!] news\" and bringing people to God / teaching them about it.

Now, on being a female priest...

Questioning

The New Testament does admonish Deacons and their husbands and wives to uphold themselves morally.

Female Preachers have ALWAYS existed. There is absolutely no question of this.

The Real $64,000 question is whether \"Mainstream\" premodern Jews,Christians,Muslims etc. have ever had women in clerical roles aside from Nuns.

So far, early christians seemed to have a near-equality with regards to the sexes when it came to church affairs. This was a central reason why so many Gentile women left their Patriarchial Pagan lifestyle.

But how ironic it is that Pagan Rome would adopt a relatively liberated(in many ways)religion, and use it to reinforce their oppressive rule.

What the hell is a \"preacer\"?! And what the fuck is a \"womand\"??!!

\"Intelligent Fundamentalist\" is a example of an oxymoron...:)

What would you call Mary Magadalene then, who preached the Good News to Jesus' disciples?

How about if she's not part of your denomination or even part of your religion? Can't be oppressed by a book you don't follow, after all. Though you can be oppressed by the people who do follow that book...

Actually, one of the banned parts of the bible, the Acts of Paul, said women CAN be preachers.

It was banned from biblical canon for that reason (and because it said you can't get into heaven if you have sex, which I think fundies should still follow).

"...but we also know a womand (sic) preacher is not Biblical"
Neither is:
-Eating pork, crabs and shrimp
-Eating cheeseburgers (meat and dairy products together)
-Wearing mixed fabrics
-Driving a car
-Doing ANY kind of work on Sunday (Just ask the patron saint of pick-up sticks)
-Modern technology
-Many other things you partake of *cough* Hypocrite! *cough*
P.S.-The passages in canonized Scripture that forbid woman preachers express Paul's OPINION, not God's command (I'm not speaking for God, just discerning the difference between human opinion preached as fact and Divine command)
