is it really our place to be conducting medical research? What if it's in God's plan for this or that person to be afflicted with this or that medical condition, etc?
In other words, if the goal of medical research is to offer a cure for those with disease, is that a cure at all? Really? Or are we actually going against the will of God in these types of circumstances?

So, can I make the statements implied in this sort of morality?
When a man inflicts suffering upon another man, it is cause for rebellion.
When God inflicts suffering upon man, it is cause for worship.
I hate to say this, but if God exists I'll hold him to the same moral standards as I do man. In that case, his willing infliction of disease upon me is not to be accepted, but rather fought with every last breath in my body. And if I win, then that only proves that either God is weaker than man or that my fighting and survival were also a "part of His Master Plan (tm)."
If God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, then it isn't possible to actually go against his will, is it? If it's God's plan for them to be afflicted, then a cure wouldn't work, surely?
Why can't these fundies make up their damn minds...
That's the whole premise behind religion - we'll tell you about hell to provide(sell) you the cure for the problem we just INVENTED
(forget the quote from the Indian who asked, would I go to hell if I hadn't heard of Jesus - thinking about his ancestors. He then got the cock and bull story about only going to hell if you renounce him and everyone else jsut dies as normal. His reply [with tears in his eyes] "Well WHY did you tell me then.")
Honestly, couldn't you say that about anything. I mean if god wanted me to live, he would have made it so that there was food in my stomach already, so I shouldn't eat, because it goes against gods plan.
See, now this is a fundy I can have some respect for. They are willing to take their beliefs to the logical conclusion.
Now, if they are willing to agree not to undergo *any* medical treatment, and to not interfere in the abilities of those of other religious persuasions to conduct medical research, or undergo medical treatment (and to not deny any children access to lifesaving medical treatments), I'd really have no objections to this post.
This shit can't go on, people. If this is the thinking of even a portion of the religious, it's poisonous in every sense to human decency and progress. It's shameful that truespirit, among others, is probably so dedicated to his/her ignorance that no amount of reasoned debate or education would shake it.
There is an old saying that says "God helps those who help themselves". Before trying to ask for miracles or try to blame lack of effort on what you guess it is God's Will (which, in fact, you do not know if it actually is) mundane methods should be tried as much as it is ethically possible.
What is with fundies and science, anyway? Science is a good things for believers and non-believers alike. Knowing how the world works helps both to lead easier lives and, for those who believe in God, it also shows them the wonders of Creation.
Mhm, we can extend that as far as we want, why do we have to help people when something breaks down and buries them alive, rescue them when they get in a fire? I mean it clearly is gods will that they die, isn't it?
Also, should I come out of a burning building? I mean it seems to be gods will, doesn't it? Also, should I continue breathing? I mean if it was gods will, that I live another minute, he wouldn't make me dependend on oxygen, wouldn't he?
Wouldn't worry about it then, as no one with your type of faith is in medical research in any way.
This must be why they have to call them "Godless scientists". Godless being the ultimate insult they have
Confused?
