everyone in Iraq was in danger from a madman. that is why we went. Iraq has been unstable for what, 2 weeks? and it won't last long... we did what was best- we saved lives and provided freedom.
but of course; you only care about your life and your freedom; right Sierra?

Another example of fundie compression. 5 billion years = 6000 years, several years = 2 weeks, tiny changes spread out over millions of years that accumulate to cause significant differences = two mosquitoes came together and formed a man.
Yeah, Sierra, showing concern for victims of war is so selfish. Don't you realise they all are tortured, maimed or killed in the name of Freedom and if the Muslim bastards aren't grateful for it, we'll bomb them into oblivion.
Yeah, I've got to look here more often. I was horribly beaten to the time-scale quip. Anyway, here's my thought: I think fundies compress 5 billion years to 6,000 and 2 years to 2 weeks because they have difficulty understanding the large numbers used in the original measurements. They automatically press everything into smaller terms so that they can hope to understand anything.
I'm not sure how old this post is, but from the context, it would seem a few years. Now, it's been three years since we invaded Iraq, and things haven't gotten any better. I'm still trying to figure out how we're saving lives there. People are dying daily, we've just added our own people to the mix. And as of yet, there is still not much in the way of freedom there. Sure, there was a vote, but that doesn't mean much. You said that we went to Iraq to stop a madman. That was just an afterthought. We went because we were told that they had WMD, which they didn't. So our government had to tell us more fairy tales to make it seem alright that we went.
As the years pass, this quote just becomes more and more painful to confront.
We passed regular facepalm territory three years ago, and implied facepalm a year later. The level of facepalm is now well off the scale.
That "madman" was sitting happily in his country, killing his countrymen with chemical weapons bought from American corporations, until the corporations decided he wasn't useful enough to hog all that oil. Because of that, Iraqis (human beings, just like everybody else) have even lesser freedom and life. So, your point is...? Oh right, you don't have one. Bugger off!
Revisionist history for the lose.
Primary reasons for invading Iraq stated BEFORE the actual invasion: connection with al-Qaeda, possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction. It wasn't about saving lives or spreading freedom originally: it was about protecting our own ass from a threat that didn't actually exist.
And, seriously, if we invaded every country with an oppressive leader in the name of freedom and saving lives, we would be invading a lot of countries (and probably costing more lives and freedom in the long run in the ensuing chaos that follows overthrow, much like what happened in Iraq!).
Funny how this madman did all his mad killing during the Reagan and Bush I administrations, well before the Gulf War.
Wonder where they got those weapons in the first place? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
If Sadam was such a madman, why did the Republicans support him with weapons and money for decades? Oh, yeah, then he was useful against the Iranis and the Russians...
Confused?
