1) This is the USA, we will not get rid of guns. It is our right to own guns so we can shoot home invaders or someone stealing our vehicle or protect our basic rights... like owning guns.

2) Yes teenagers shoplifting and running should be brutalized. DON'T STEAL.

3) Yes, "stuff" is worth more then a criminals life. If I see some guy bash in my vehicles window to steal my laptop I should have every right to kill him on the spot, with any means I have, be it shooting or bashing his skull in with a tire iron.

4) Criminals are a detriment to society. Once you steal gum or a car, your are a thief and should be put down. Its really, really easy: Don't steal, don't vandalize, don't rape, don't mug people, and you will be fine and live life without being beaten up or killed by police. Why is this a hard concept?

People can stop stealing. I use to shoplift as a teen because I could and I kept doing it until I was caught. I haven't done it or any other type of stealing in twenty years.

2. What about adults stealing basic rights from people? Like food, shelter, healthcare, clean water, or the most important one of all; LIFE!

3. No, “stuff” is never as important as a life. Life is (again) the most basic right of all.
Do people have the right to kill politicians that steal their healthcare, their pension, their jobs, their clean water, their children?

4. Criminals are indeed a detriment to society. The bigger the crook, the bigger the detriment. The biggest ones right now are #45 and his henchmen.

People are killed for “dangerous” things like watching TV in their own home, talking to grandma on the phone on their lawn, reaching for the driver’s license, walking home, and for open carry in an open-carry-state. The concept that’s obviously too hard for you to grasp, dearie, is that their only common thing is that they were all black. If you’re black, you DON’T have a practical right to own a gun, and it’s probably pretty hard if you’re Latino or Asian too. ONLY white people have ACTUAL right to own guns.

I can't see how this could possibly go wrong. Like a relative of the laptop thief then takes a gun and kills their murderer. Or you missing the third and hitting that sweet old lady who was getting her mail. Or the thief having a gun and killing you before stealing your stuff.

Stuff can be replaced. Lives cannot and if you kill someone, it's murder, making you a criminal just like the thief.

Outside of video games, murdering somebody for shoplifting is a pretty serious case of disproportionate retribution. I’m pro-gun, but this is disturbing.

Perhaps I’ve understood incorrectly, but you seem to be equating incel mentality (and vocabulary) with fundamentalist style social conservatism. The latter is a sociological phenomenon, learned and spread as a socio-political and, at times, religious ideology, whereas the former is an individual mental state, perhaps also a mental “disorder”.

While I understand why police has to use gun against armed criminals threatening lives, shooting thieves is an overreaction. Human life is worth more than stolen goods!

Even in jurisdictions where theft could be punished with death, the accused thieves had trials first and could ask for a pardon.

Add on to this that in California (and probably all other states at the time) in the 1960s, it was legal for regular citizens to bring firearms into courthouses, and it was frequently done. Up until Black Panthers began to do it, and all of the sudden, right-wing politicians (including Ronald Reagan) felt there was a need to ban firearms inside courthouses by all citizens. The right was fully respected as long as only white people did it, and needed to be done away with when black people insisted on the same right.

Even in video games it’s disproportionate retribution, but at least in video games the only consequence if things go very badly is you have to reload an earlier save. Some games you have to restart. In real life, there is no reload, there is no restart, there is living with the consequences. And these people don’t understand what consequences are in even a vague sense, much less have any ability to comprehend what the particular consequences of any act is.

Imagine this scenario: You’re a storeowner and you see a teen grab something and run for the store. What do you do?

Shoot him, you think! Brutalize him! Make him pay! He doesn’t deserve pity because he broke the law! DON’T STEAL!

And then you see that the thing he “stole” was his own smartphone, set down for a moment and suddenly picked up because he’d just remembered he promised to meet his girlfriend and had to hurry to reach her on time. Nothing was stolen. Just a big misunderstanding…but he’s just as dead as if he had been. You can’t use “DON’T STEAL DON’T STEAL” as your excuse. You can’t take it back. An innocent person who did nothing wrong died by your hand.

Worst-case scenario without a gun: Shoplifter gets away.
