This is what happens when gay marriage is forcibly legalized over the will of the people. There will be backlashes. People don't like being told that they don't have a right to vote on whether to maintain or change the millenia-old definition of marriage.
I sympathize with all of the ordinary gay people who just want to live their lives quietly and peacefully. They are the real victims of the whiny activists who demanded the gay marriage issue be imposed by the courts rather than decided by the people.

The will of the people IS that gay marriage should be allowed. A majority of Americans support the right of gay people to marry.
Regardless, nobody gets to vote on other people's rights in this country.

That's very true. It's also very sad that people have to be forced to accept that other people have rights.
Kim Il-Davis.
She'll have a backlash against her 'backlash' - in the shape of that legal 'Damocles Sword' over her head - if she so much as thinks she has the right to think that her so-called 'Conscience' has priority over the law ; Romans 13:1-5, bitch. Do your job, or be jailed.

All those Justices appointed by Repubican presidents: Raygun & Dumbya. Who decided for S-SM on 26th June last year. Who was it who voted for Dumbya & Raygun? Therefore it was YOU who ultimately decided. It's all YOUR fault. You have no right to think that the SCOTUIS Decision was wrong, when those particular Justices were placed there by YOU.
Kim Il-Davis. The precedent has been set. The above facts. Enjoy your MC Escher-esque multi-dimensional paradox, A fail ist & all your (ultimately) pro -LGBT rights Repubican ilk. >:D
And what about the ordinary gay people who just want to live their lives quietly and peacefully... while being married to their SO?
Why should the will of bigots, even if they're a majority, deprive those people of something that doesn't even affect the bigots at all?

Backlashes , from gay marriage?
I'd expect backlashes from S&M or slavery,
but not unless one (or two) happen(s) to be into it.
The will of most people seem to be to have gender-neutral marriage laws.
What backlashes? You might be forced to talk to a man about his husband? That minor discomfort is definitely trumped by homosexuals' right to equal protection.
The people of Ireland had the right to vote on whether to keep oppressing and discriminating against homosexuals, or to give them equal rights. And they voted, with a large majority, for equal rights.
How are the ordinary gay people victims of being able to marry?
Besides, gay marriage has not been imposed by the courts. It has just been found unconstitutional to deny people marriage based on gender.
“People don't like being told that they don't have a right to vote on whether to maintain or change the millenia-old definition of marriage.”
Too fucking bad. They also don’t get a right to vote on whether we reinstitute slavery.
They don’t get a right to decide whether Catholicism is afforded the religious freedom protections of the 1st Amendment.
If a secular nation has no secular reason to discriminate, the desire of the majority to discriminate isn’t THAT powerful.
Confused?
