[Re: Gore to Children: Question Your Parents]
gee, Al Gore is kind of an old guy- at least to a 12 year old, maybe they should question his ideas too- you know the whole global warming, the earth is gonna die if we don't change right now thing.
This is unbelievable, I hope the parents of those children understand what this man is doing? A subtle form of brainwashing- this technique is used by cults everywhere. Undermine the authority figures in someones life. And yes- global warming is a cult IMO.

"global warming is a cult IMO."
No, global warming is a fact. Your bible beater theatre of fail is a cult.
It's anti-global warming that's a cult. It's based on nothing but a distrust of anything a scientist or a "liberal" says, combined with clever advertising by coal, oil, auto and power generating companies.
I love how these people seem to feel that questioning something equates to outright rejecting it. I also love how when we tell a child something, we're brainwashing them...regardless to how much room we give them to draw their own conclusions. They, on the other hand, are "ensuring that a proper Christian morality and mindset are instilled"...never mind that most of that they teach children either traumatizes them, or just sinks in without them understanding what it means (For example, the kids at the WBC protests, screaming with their parents that Fags Will Burn in Hell!)
Half a pointlet about how Al Gore's kind of an authority figure and old guy himself buried under a pile of paranoia and "I don't want my kids telling me I can't drive my SUV!" entitlement. I'm sure it's a lot like programs in school telling kids that tobacco is harmful. (Which, by the way, resulted in concerned kids persuading their parents to stop.)
Why is it that they'll apply Pascal's Wager to god's existence but refuse to use the same logic for global warming.
If it's caused by man and you don't do anything then we're fucked, if you do something then at the very least you end up with a more pleasant environment.
It's not brainwashing. It's critical thinking, and it's a good idea. In some situations you have to double-check your parents' thinking.
Incidentally, Pascal's Wager is great for global warming:
If global warming is actually happening, then:
We should reduce air pollution
If global warming is not happening, then:
Our next most noticeable environmental problem is air pollution. [well and water pollution and other crap but..] We should reduce it.
???
PROFIT
So the world's going to hell in a handbasket,
The End Times are upon us,
Jesus is going to return any day now,
Armageddon is just around the corner ...
... but Global Warming isn't happening! No no no no!
[I hope the parents of those children understand what this man is doing?]
Teaching children to cleap up after themselves and to take care of the planet?
[A subtle form of brainwashing- this technique is used by cults everywhere.]
And you would know a lot about that, wouldn't you?
You know, I think there are too many cults around nowadays.
There's that guy who charged me $200 to fix the pipes under the sink. He belonged to the plumber's cult. When we were expecting our first child, my wife and I had to join a pre-natal cult. Just to post on FSTDT, I had to become a member of the atheist cult. Because I like Star Wars (the first 3 episodes, hate the next 3), I joined a cult following cult. I voted for Obama, so now I'm in the Obamacult.
When will it all end?
Gee, a group who brainwash their children through abuse and isolation are worried about someone encouraging independent thought? What could they possibly be worried about? That they're little "soldiers" for Christ might discover that they're individual human beings with minds of they're own and the freedom to choose they're own path in life?
"gee, Al Gore is kind of an old guy- at least to a 12 year old, maybe they should question his ideas too- you know the whole global warming, the earth is gonna die if we don't change right now thing."
Global Warming wasn't Al Gore's idea, and he has never said it was. And yes, they should question it.
What you mean is they should dismiss it out of hand because they don't want to take responsibility for either causing the mess nor sorting it out. Which is exactly what you have done.
"Excuse me, but do you know where the meeting of the cult of Global Warming is?"
"Just past the cult of Desertification, between the Tectonic Plate Movement and the cult of Rain.
And seeing you throw the word "cult" around like a hacky-sack is why people outside your comfort bubble don't take you seriously.
Sometimes the people in charge are the ones who shouldn't be. We have a duty to make sure they don't fuck things up to the point of no return. I mean, don't you want all your future grandkids to have a place to live? You can't give birth in heaven.
Confused?
