Getting rid of God
[Venting mode on] Many people today say that there can't be a God because why would He let so many bad things happen. Yet those same people demand that we remove God from school, government, the home, gatherings of any sort and any public place in general; and that we accept homosexuality, porn, etc. as a normal part of our culture. So, we (I'm talking about "we" as a society, not us here on RR ) push Him away from us in every way, and then when He doesn't rescue us from our own inequities we either blame Him or claim He doesn't exist? Honestly, where is the logic in this? If every time I saw my neighbor I told him to get away, be gone from my sight; would I expect him to come help me if I fell down in my yard, especially if I didn't call to him for help? Of course not. Our society refuses to call on God for help, refuses to turn away from every depravity imaginable, and then has the audacity to blame the Lord for everything that goes wrong. It disgusts me! From now on if I ever hear someone ask why God doesn't save us or how can there by a God because of this, I will go out of my way to remind them who it was that pushed God out in the first place! Who's with me?

I'm not!
Word salad btw...

Who indeed. We don't push something out that we don't believe in. And we don't call on something we don't believe to help us.
Look, you mind-free dolt, just because you believe in something doesn't mean we all have to.
Yes, let's equate the evils of porn and homosexuality (on the part of humans) with the bad things that god lets happen, such as cancer, HIV, babies being stillborn, genocide, sexual assaults, MS, etc. Because god is offended by our harmless sexual acts, he's going to allow such horrible things to happen to his children? NO.
It is far more likely that no such sky daddy exists and therefore cannot intervene. So, you fail at everything. And you are Tres stupide, dumbass.
So, we (I'm talking about "we" as a society, not us here on RR )
Sweetie, I hate to break this to you, but you are a part of society.
"Venting mode"
So what's new.
Or you could act like an adult. You know, take the good gratefully, accept the bad with forbearance and try to make things better.
Oh, and God's been removed from government? Homes? Public places? Strange, I hadn't noticed that.
And no one is asking you to accept homosexuality or porn. If you don't approve of homosexuality, don't homosex. If you don't approve of porn, break your pornograph.
And grow up.
You seem to be forgetting that placing your god above all else in the political and social realms has been tried already, and failed horribly. Remember the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and others? It's already been tried. Learn from history that christianity running things is NOT a good idea.
so is god all merciful or not?
BTW I don't blame god for anything.
I am a little peeved at the tooth fairy for not helping with the US economic crisis.
So that's how petty, small, and weak your god is? "Oooh, they won't play with me, I'm sulking now." Pathetic. I wouldn't even want humans who are like that as my friends, much less omnipotent supernatural beings.
Many people today say that there can't be a God because why would He let so many bad things happen.
He lets bad stuff happen to RR people and other fundamentalists and evangelicals, too. In fact, He even lets more bad stuff happen to them than, say, the godless liberals in NYC. Does God refuse to listen to godly people because they happen to live in a country where the government doesn't endorse Christianity or help proselytize for it? What's the difference between having a god who demands that everyone in the whole country worship him before he'll help anyone and having no god at all?
Yet those same people demand that we remove God from school, government, the home, gatherings of any sort and any public place in general
This is a gross exaggeration. People may have God anywhere on their own property. The right to gather is guaranteed by the Constitution. You can't use school employees to proselytize for your religion, although you can pray privately and even form after-school religious clubs. You can't put religious displays (or anything else) on other peoples' property, including public property, without the permission of the owner.

So, we (I'm talking about "we" as a society, not us here on RR )
Then why don't you say "they"?
Honestly, where is the logic in this?
That is a good question.
From now on if I ever hear someone ask why God doesn't save us or how can there by a God because of this, I will go out of my way to remind them who it was that pushed God out in the first place!
I really hope you do, just so people will know what a gullible simpleton you are.
the home, gatherings of any sort and any public place in general
No one wants to remove god from your home. You have every right to beleive in what you want, you have no right to take away others beliefs.
and that we accept homosexuality,
See the above.
From now on if I ever hear someone ask why God doesn't save us or how can there by a God because of this, I will go out of my way to remind them who it was that pushed God out in the first place!
Which god are you talking about?
What about those suffering people who pray to god for years and still nothing happens?
I would still help the guy no matter how much of a jerk he is, and I'm an atheist.
Why? Because its called decency Holmes, it (good actions) shouldn't be dependent on religion or gain.
Our society refuses to call on the tooth fairy for help, refuses to turn away from every depravity imaginable, and then has the audacity to blame the tooth fairy for everything that goes wrong. Fixed.
There's actually a sane RR poster in that thread:
Actually, I'm a member of the "turn the other cheek" club. And I've never met an athiest who actually "blames God" when things go bad for them. They do so sarcastically because things going wrong are actually results of human error and/or coincedence.
I'm surprised they didn't delete this "heresy".
Yeah, that's a stupid reason for saying there's no God. It's about reason 500 for not believing in God.
1) Way ahead of that is the fact the whole idea is bronze age superstition.
2) Inherently stupid.
3) Every piece of evidence ever offered has always failed.
4) He tells different stories about himself every time He speaks.
5) He's unable to forgive offences against himself without blood.
"Every depravity imaginable"? I can imagine quite a few that society rightly does not endorse, namely child molestation, gratuitous violence, attacks on the elderly and disabled, etc., etc.
However, to take your concerns: Neither two men (or women) getting it on, nor tapes/pictures of such, are depraved. What I do with my adult, human, consenting sexual partner is my business and his. It is not yours, nor the State's. Ditto applies to our home-entertainment system.
"If every time I saw my neighbor I told him to get away, be gone from my sight; would I expect him to come help me if I fell down in my yard, especially if I didn't call to him for help?"
yet another fundies inability to understand simple, human kindness.
fundie screams at people, then has head explode when the very same people they've screamed at come running to pull them from a burning wreck, or help them if they fall down and break a leg. they just can't comprehend it. no matter how much someone hated me, or how much i thought i hated someone, when it comes down to life or death, i'm going to do everything in my power to help that person out. why? because it's the right thing to do. and i'm able to feel that way with no belief in any god whatsoever. go figure.
"So, we (I'm talking about "we" as a society, not us here on RR ) push Him away from us in every way"
'He' may have been the centre of human thinking in olden times. The fact is though, 'God' has been pushed further & further from our way of thinking since the Renaissance, and his being forced to the edge of irrelevancy has been accelerating since the mid-1800s. Right now, he's hanging by his fingernails from the edge of the platform of human importance, merely by the 'Faith' from you fundy wackjobs. All it'll take for him to plunge into the abyss of absolute rejection (along with all the other deities of myth & legend) is the LHC to find the Higgs-Boson particle, the results of such coupled with Hawkings' equations for his Unified Field Theory, and then we'll know HOW the universe came into being - and thus science will know EVERYTHING.
Which is why I call the LHC 'The God-Killer'.
As for the rest of your bullshit, Tres WRONG, I have just two words that can utterly destroy your thinking & morals:
Personal Responsibility.
...because bad things never happened to people when everybody went to church...
The people that blame god are the ones that the church told "It'll be OK, just trust in god". They've been duped by religion. Those of us who don't believe in him have to look for real solutions to problems, not magic and imaginary entities.
We demand that the favoritism of one god over all the others be removed from school, government and public property.
What you do in your homes, and in your houses of worship, is no-one else's business.
We also demand that you accept heterosexuality, tallness and laughter as normal parts of our culture.
HE has never rescued anyone from their own inequities, or from anything else. Prayers didn't help against Inquisitions, the Black Plague, malaria, leprosy, smallpox, bullets and bombs in WWI and WWII, etc.
The point is, dearie, that we see no evidence for the existence of ANY gods. We do see evidence for the existence of our neighbors almost every day.
