This study was obviously done by people of no religion whatsoever (atheists) who are determined to undermine our beliefs. If they can 'prove' that we are mentally unstable they think no-one will want to listen to any of us. These people have a huge gap in their lives yet they feel threatened by any mention of God. Could that be because they know that He is really there but do not wish to be answerable to Him in any way, shape or form?

No.
"If they can 'prove' that we are mentally unstable..."
You fundies are doing such a fine job of it already, I don't see why anyone feels the need to do studies to prove it...
We are perfectly comfortable with mentions of god. We tend to get a bit peevish, however, when some fundy is trying push his beliefs down our throats. Further, an atheist almost always knows far more about the concept of god (and of the Bible, I might add) than any fundy ever will. The theory that we "know he is really there" but do not wish to answer to him is typically fundy: simultaneously presumptuous, fatuous, ill-informed and ignorant. Yes, Pilgrim, there really, truly are people who don't share your belief in a Sky Daddy. If you can't wrap your little mind around that, tough luck.
"If they can 'prove' that we are mentally unstable they think no one will want to listen to any of us."
No proof needed. And no one wants to listen to you. Easy.
"These people have a huge gap in the lives yet they feel threatened by any mention of God."
No we don't. Because we're not Jesus-stalkers like yourself.
To answer you question, How can atheists be accountable to someone they don't believe exists? And my God is not a tyrant that your God is.
I like way all the respondents except one assumed the study only examined Xians.
The odd-one-out thought that, yes, Muslims are mentally unstable.
If you told me that you speak and you believe in a person whom no one (not even you) can see, touch, hear, taste, or smell; that this person can punish you and us with unimaginable torment if we don't believe in him; and that you got all this out of a very old book, we don't have to prove that you are mentally unstable.
Man, you are batshit insane.
"If they can 'prove' that we are mentally unstable they think no-one will want to listen to any of us."
NEWSFLASH: What makes you think that a mentally stable person wants to listen to you now?
"Could that be because they know that He is really there but do not wish to be answerable to Him in any way, shape or form?"
Then we wouldn't be atheists, would we?
A recent study has suggested that religious people have a natural leaning towards full-filling a personality gap.
Saying "Religious people tend to have a low socio-chlimatic personality disorder"
Is there an actual source for this? If I try to google for it, I only find the blog post again.
Worship without understanding!
If you dare to commit the sin of understanding, you will understand that the thing you have been told to worship is nothing more than the Eternal Asshole of the Pleroma.
After reading whiterider, curtuslove, David Stewart, Robert T. Lee, and supersportcarico, I have no doubt that some so-called fundie Christians are certifiable lunatics. After seeing that a lying thief like Kent Hovind still has followers at CSE, I now have no doubt that some are certifiably stupid lemmings.
At least this one isn't calling atheism a religion.
"These people have a huge gap in their lives yet they feel threatened by any mention of God."
No. I have no gap in my life. I have a great job, a loving family, a beautiful girlfriend and friends and hobbies that I enjoy to the fullest. I am not threatened by god, I merely resent having it shoved down my throat at every corner by over-zealous fuckwits that have their heads so far up their arses that they can't hear me when I tell them I want nothing to do with them.
"Could that be because they know that He is really there but do not wish to be answerable to Him in any way, shape or form?"
No. We know he isn't there, and we have the strength of will to get through the problems of this world without having to fall back on the crutch of some invisible skyman.
Mac, you can't read my mind. You can't read anybody's mind. What you are doing is called "projection"--attributing your own thoughts or feelings to another person. Atheists don't worry about answering to your god any more than they worry about answering to Ronald McDonald.
Projection is one of the symptoms of paranoia. Why do you think atheists are out to get you, Mac?
Confused?
