Peronally, I thimk we should have blown the statue up after 9/11 and sent it back to France to show our disgust at France's opposition to fighting the war on terrorism.
I still think we should do it, and raise a gigantic statue of Jesus in it's place. Now that would be a thumb in the eye of the Muslim terrorists! It would also make a statement that this is a Christian nation.

I will make this crystal clear: if someone else suggests this ever again, I'm breaking out my shotgun and going Fundie hunting. You fuckers make me sick, attempting to destroy what freedom we have left.
EDIT: sorry about the rage here, but this kind of bullshit makes me so angry, I just want to kill something.
Gene, Gene, the dumbfuck machine.
I dare you to try it, fuckwad. The resulting furor would be truly amusing. Go back under your rock, hillbilly.
<<< It would also make a statement that this is a Christian nation. >>>
Guess what, fucktard? It isn't, never was, and never will be. We have a little something called the First Amendment which specifically prohibits the government from doing as you suggest (and from declaring the nation to be a Christian nation). Oh, and very few of the Founding Fathers were anything resembling conservative Christians. Hell, if you heard them speak on religion you'd probably have had them lynched. For instance, Thomas Jefferson:
"I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature."
"Peronally, I thimk we should have blown the statue up after 9/11 and sent it back to France to show our disgust at France's opposition to fighting the war on terrorism."
Yes, but that's because you are a shallow, myopic assbite. Deeper thinkers realize that that would not help the world situation in any way.
"I still think we should do it, and raise a gigantic statue of Jesus in it's place."
Yes, but that's because you are still a shallow, myopic assbite and a Xian moron.
"Now that would be a thumb in the eye of the Muslim terrorists!"
Yes, it would be. It would be a "thumb in the eye" of all non-Xians including your non-Xian countrymen. Even more to the point, it would serve no beneficial purpose.
"It would also make a statement that this is a Christian nation."
Yes, except for the fact that this was NOT and is NOT a Xian nation. Please note:
"As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..." From Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli 1797. Unanimously ratified by the U.S. Senate and signed by President John Adams.
and
"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced an inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth."
-- Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father and 3rd President of the United States
Riiiiiiight, blowing up the greatest monument of liberty and the strongest symbol of freedom and democracy in this country would show your disgust of ... what, exactly? Freedom and democracy, it looks like to me. It also would show that you are violently out of touch with the teachings of the man you claim to follow -- as well as out of touch with the reality that this is NOT, nor has it ever been, a Christian nation.
~David D.G.
The new wave of fundie christians are all about explosives, torture, murder, death and revenge.
What Would Jesus *Say*, I wonder ?
Hello? Homeland Security? I would like to report a terrorist threat made against the Statue of Liberty? Yes, the one in New York harbor.
Ahh, that’s not in your jurisdiction? The Department of Homeland Security has declared that there are no major cultural or economic targets in NYC? Yes, I do remember reading that in the paper. And you are all busy guarding the Mule Day parade in IOWA. I see.
Who should I call? The National Historical Society
because they are in charge of relics. Thanks. I’ll try them.
(/snark)
Brothers and sisters, I tell you that Satan’s paganism is alive and well in New York City.
Look what they done
they erected a statue of some pagan goddess right in the middle of the harbor. With a face that only a lesbian could love.
I say that we accept Brother Gene’s suggestion and petition for the demolition of this heathen symbol of sin and replace it with a statue of our Lord and Savior.
Please place your contributions in the baskets that are being passed so that we can replace that symbol of homosexuality and unnatural and immoral desire with a proper tribute to the founder of our nation, Jesus Christ Victorious.
Do I hear an amen?

"Oh, I'm sure there's a whole lot of Americans who would like to see a lasting symbol of freedom destroyed. By our own people, nonetheless."
You mean, like the constitution? Whoops, too late.
"What Would Jesus *Say*, I wonder ?"
Allah akbar! :-p
This reminds me of that one time, those people made a Statue of Liberty, only she was holding a cross and copy of the ten commandments...
If this ever happens, I will hire a professional hacker to hunt him down, then an assasinator to do the rest... *sinister laughter*
OR, I can do it myself!
*sigh*
Just because we don't quite get along with France now doesn't mean you should blow up something we got hundreds of years ago as a gift, let alone the fact that it is supposed to be a symbol of liberty. But you're too fucking retarded to realize that. And as for Jesus, how many times do I need to say that we are not a nation founded on Christian morals, asshole.
A christian nation with 20% of its population non-Christian. Sounds weird but........besides, as far as I am concerned, they crashed the planes because of that, that's the point. On the other side, was not France MORE CHRISTIAN THAN ANYBODY, opposing the killing of innocent people in a country which had NO LINKS WITH AL-QAEDA whatsoever?.
I still think we should [blow up the Statue of Liberty], and raise a gigantic statue of Jesus in it's place.
There you have it. That one sentence sums up the fundie position. "Liberty? We don't want liberty. We want to be identical to the terrorists, except with slightly different delusions." All right, they've confessed. The war against Al Qaeda is NOT about protecting our freedom; it's about killing someone because he believes that a man who never existed was a magic sky fairy's prophet rather than his son.

France isn't the only country that opposes our involvement in Iraq. What should we do, burn down every single restaurant serving food from countries that don't support us? Ban ethnic pride parades?
You're a moron.

Hmm, which other people can we think of who like to blow up irreplacable, historically important statues?
Anti - Dei: Crap, you beat me to it. ;-;
And dw, you spelled it right.
@StandardDeviant
Can I join you?

Blow up one of the major icons in the world which symbolizes FREEDOM, and replace it with a Jesus statue? Yeah, you should have done that. You fundies couldn't have send a stronger signal to the world what your real agenda is: Replace your democracy based on freedom with a theocracy based on thought control.
For your plan of "blowing up the Statue of Liberty", I can recommend you some experienced consultants: They are called the Taliban, and they have shown their expertise by blowing up some statues of great significance (the statues of Bamiyan):

Well, American freedom, hope and ideals were pretty much destroyed when the PATRIOT Act passed. Destroying an internationally recognized symbol of the latter seems oddly appropriate.
Setting up the gigantic statue of Jesus seems appropriate as well. After all, that's all Jesus is to your lot: a lifeless object. To you, Jesus is an object of veneration, not guidance. You love to praise him, preach about him, sing about him, usually as loudly and as publicly as possible. However, when it comes to following his teachings about love and compassion you have entire libraries devoted to explaining why you can ignore what he said and follow your own selfish impulses.
No Gene, this is not a Christian nation. It isn't just because the Constitution fails to specify a national religion. It isn't just because the 1st Amendment gives us to right to worship as and if we choose. Its because your lot thinks that big gaudy statues and loud praising of your "savior's" name are an adequate substitution for following his teachings.
How is the war on terrorism going? Costing you insane amounts of money, but leading nowhere in particular, perhaps...
It would be a greater thumb in the eye of the Jews, silly. Muslims accept Jesus as one of the prophets, Jews don't accept him at all.
Why do you hate the US Constitution?
Confused?
