Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) on Wednesday said that he was “open” to considering the idea of halting all student visas from Muslim countries as a reaction to this month’s Boston Marathon bombings.
Earlier this week, Fox News host Bob Beckel first suggested that there should be a two-year suspension of 75,000 student visas from Muslim countries, even though the two men suspected of carrying out the Boston bombings emigrated from Russia as refugees.
“I think we really have to consider, given the fact so many people hate us, that we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students coming to this country for some period of time so that we can absorb what we’ve got and look at what we’ve got and decide whether some of the people here should be going — be sent home or sent to prison,” Beckel opined.

The bombers didn't come here as students, so your response is to deport or deny entry to peaceful students who don't want to do anything here but learn?
One has fuck-all to do with the other, but I'd be rather amused to hear you try and explain/justify your stance.
You know, not long after Boston some lunatic tried to commit a bombing in Canada. Know who stopped him? Muslims. This is their home too, and they want to protect it as badly as we do. Start making them outsiders in their own home and watch that concern for the well being of others evaporate.
And that will make people stop hating you? Are you sure you thought this thing though thoroughly enough?
Maybe you should bar oil from Saudi Arabia and halting all student visas from Norway? Those countries have actually provided terrorists. Sure, Breivik only attacked Norwegians, but still...
I see the GOP didn't learn a damn thing from the 2012 election. It's like they're sitting around saying, "Hmm... nominating ultraconservative, reactionary, right-wingers didn't win the election for us, so let's find someone who's even farther out on the right wing fringe to run next time."

Fundie "thinking" in a nutshell.
Mr. Rubio, I'm disappointed in you. I used to think you were one of the few conservatives who could actually be reasonable, but it seems I was clearly mistaken. Being from an immigrant family yourself, you should be the last person to support such an odious idea. You, sir, are a traitor to your own people and to the ideals that brought them to this country in the first place. Shame on you.
Number of victims of the Boston bombing whose lives would have been saved by Marco Rubio's proposal: 0
And the "Muslim students" include Albanians who, as a rule, are fanatically pro-American.

Why stop there? We are also disliked by China, most of Europe, and most of South America. And I'm pretty sure Mexico doesn't like us flooding their country with guns and driving the business of their drug cartels. If our standard is to disallow immigration to people who don't like us then we might as well build a giant dome over the entire US because right now we don't have a lot of friends. Sure, we have allies but even they disapprove of a lot of what we are doing. And here's the thing, it was the GOP (your party) that decided the US was going to be some kind of lone cowboy solving all of the world's problems alone and by using force. Well congratulations: you CREATED more enemies than you destroyed.
I guess Chechens from Russia don't fill conservatard voters with fear like Muslims from "Muslim countries" do.
This is why I hate the Republican party, they always pander to the cowards.
For those here who are not familiar with Bob Beckel, he is one of Fox News's "token liberals." He is sort of the "anti-Colmes" -- brash, arrogant, and actually able to hold his own in a debate against conservatives. Of course, when push comes to shove (as we see here), he'll back whatever position Fox needs him to support. According to American conservative logic, if a "strong liberal" like Beckel supposedly believes it, it MUST be a moderate and reasonable position.

Thank you Marco. Keep it up. Get the Tea Party in on it. The Democrats will be in the White House for a long time.
If the Republicans didn't have the 2nd Amendment to cling on to as a venue for voter support, they'd be sooo long gone by now.
Richard Reid (aka the "shoe bomber") was British. Umar Abdulmutallab (the "underwear bomber") was Nigerian, but Nigeria is about half Muslim and half Christian. The Earth Liberation Front that torched a building at the University of Washington and several others was home-grown, as were Timothy McVeigh, the Unibomber, Carlos Bledsoe (aka Abdulhakim Muhammad, the Little Rock recruiting office shooter), Nidal Hasan (of Fort Hood massacre infamy), abortion doctor killers Scott Roeder and Eric Rudolph, and John Allen Muhammad (the DC sniper). How many acts of US terrorism were committed by students from "Muslim" countries as opposed to lunatic-fringe Christians?
Just a thought, what if the muslims come from countries where their religion is a minority, AS IN THE CASE OF THE TWO SUSPECTS?. Russia is a Christian country, Orthodox, for precission, so?
Confused?
