Exactly. It’s a classic fallacy you get from living in a bubble and being too insular to learn about the world outside of that bubble. “Nobody in my social group is X, therefore X doesn’t exist.”
You know why it doesn’t surprise me that GenderCritical posters are dogmatic enough to make that fallacy? Because this is the same sub that handwaves away the actual statistics and studies on gender dysphoria–which show that transition is the only treatment that works (including the Meyer study that Catholic wingnut Paul McHugh cited as why he shut down the SRS program at Johns Hopkins). See, all those studies are supposedly doctored by “gender ideology” and the Patriarchy, the primary agents of which are nefarious autogynephilic TIMs.
Instead, GenderCritical users repeat “they need Mental Help, not hormones” ad nauseam as if repeating the line often enough will make it true. Kiwi Farms, Voat repeat the same line, and every time I’ve ever asked them to show a single shred of evidence that talking to a politically incorrect shrink cures dysphoria they can’t do it–they don’t even bother to cite the pimozide study that had only one patient. If my experience on Reddit, Kiwi Farms and Voat is any indication, the one thing TERFs (/r/GenderCritical, Kiwi Farms), alt-righters (Kiwi Farms, Voat, /r/CringeAnarchy/MDE/ClownWorldWar) and flag-waving cuckservatives (Milo, /r/RightWingLGBT) can all agree on is “REEEEE puberty-blockers are child abuse!!!!!1!1–by the way Leelah Alcorn’s parents did nothing wrong.″ And the people saying puberty-blockers are child abuse are the exact same demographic who complain about how horrible-looking Western hons are–hons that they themselves created with gatekeeping. KiwiFarms, the main site for gawking at how gross-looking lolcows are, also upvoted a poster who complained that ContraPoints was able to get hormones from an informed consent clinic instead of being gatekept and required to do the Real Life Test for a year before getting any hormones. Heaven forbid people get hormones young enough to pass instead of turning into an Uncanny Valley creature for Kiwi Farms users to point to and go “see? Trannies are delusional!”
