While this gentleperson is clearly suffering from cranio-rectal inversion, the claim is not *entirely* wrong. There exist large numbers of “poor” people who are not literally scrounging for change to buy food every day. Unfortunately, many of them never learned to budget and save. Saving your way into richness is largely a myth, but far too many people are unable save $10 each week – not because they can’t afford it, but because money always “burns holes in their pockets” and they spend it. So when they drop their phones or their tires need replacing, they can’t afford a couple hundred dollars and get forced into high-interest debt. Which makes them poorer. After a couple cycles of that, they *are* scrounging for change to buy food.
Better education is part of the solution, but it’s hard to teach kids to not do what their parents do.
