The narrative in Genesis 1 & 2 is quite clear, what is there to interpret? If it isn't historical narrative, how can you draw any lessons from it, it is just a story.
And if you had never heard of Evolution, would you disbelieve Genesis 1 & 2?

Even back then, the story was mostly seen as being metaphorical. It stayed that way until the Protestant Reformation.

Well, you can learn from it that God is above all else because he created everything. You can learn that humans are superior to animals and vegetation and that women are inferior to men.
And if you had never heard of Evolution, would you disbelieve Genesis 1 & 2?
I would. I'm an Australian Realist.
Hey Marty; Listen VEEEEERRRY CARFULLY....
GEN 1 says that Man & Woman were both made on the 6th day after all the other stuff was made.
GEN 2 says that Man was created first before all the critters....then after a long while of naming all the critters (which took a LOT longer than a day), he was still lonely and Deity removed one of his ribs and turned it into a woman.
Now; The above would make a lot more sense if it was METAPHOR and NOT LITERAL but it's pure nonsense if this was a literal historical event.
You insist it's literal and historical yet the first two chapters of Genesis contradict each other over the Creation of Humanity thing. If historical it would either have to happen one way or the other way, not both!
Finally; Believing in Evolution does not hinder a person's faith and most practicing Abrahamics are perfectly fine with Evolution.
The narrativeS in Genesis 1 and 2 don't correspond with each other. Did God create man and then animals, or animals and then man? According to one, he created Adam and the animals first, and then created Eve, according to the other humans (both men and women) were created after animals. They can't both be historically correct, but they can both be wrong, or just fables, metaphors...
It's not as if using parables to teach lessons was ever a thing, right? I mean, if it were, Jesus would have done it a bit, yea?
...oh wait...
“And if you had never heard of Evolution, would you disbelieve Genesis 1 & 2?”
God, I hope so. The Almighty looked away and two kids got us ALL in trouble? Two kids LITERALLY inable to tell right from wrong get all of us punished for doing wrong? The angel with the flaming sword was not stationed on the tree until after it was too late. But God should have known what was about to happen….It’s really a fucked up story.
Confused?
