I had an experience this past July that really woke me up I was talking to a friend about world events being like endtime prophecy from the Bible. Well my friend went on vacation to Bullhead City and on to Malibu when he got back he said"those people out there are not living like it's the end times they are building houses like crazy and livin' it up". Well the lightbulb came on in my head and I said "that's what Jesus said it would be like just before he returned."Matthew 24:36-39 My friends reply was "I been hearing that my whole life and it aint happend yet" well that's when the sirens went off in my head; 2nd Peter 3:3-4 I told him that's just what the Bible said people would say .Now he just thinks I'm crazy, anyway that's one of the reasons I joined this board !

Cyborgtroy - that is it, exactly. Also, the proof that there is an invisible cat following you around, is that you can't see it.
Your "signs of the end times" consist basically of "no sign that anything is likely to happen". Can you see the obvious flaw yet? That's right, every moment of the millenia since that shit was written qualifies as a sign of the impending doom; and even if that doom were millions of years off, every second leading up to them would count as an indication that it could be mere seconds away. That way lies paranoid insanity.
You can't take the total absence of any indicator as an indicator; rationalism, and real life, do not work that way.

Even if the world was about to end then you're going to really want to live it up, because you'd only have a little bit of time.

Good choice, this is one of the main crazy person boards.
For the better part of 2 millenia people have seen signs of the "endtimes" all around them and yet it never seems to happen. Just consider that maybe living our lives to the best of our ability, is exactly what we are supposed to do. Maybe "living it up" is the very best thing we all can do with the life we have.
Talk about a self-fulfilling prophesy. If something bad happens, it's a sign that the end-times are near. If nothing happens, that's a sign, too. What would Jimmy see as a sign that the end-times aren't coming yet?

Uh, Jimmy, even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then. That doesn't mean it's sight is returning. If you write thousands of predictions, couched in non-specific language, sooner or later something is going to come close to a hit, and everyone remembers the one hit, not the one thousand misses. This has been known by would-be prophets for thousands of years, from the prophet Elijah, to the Oracles at Delphi, to the Apostle Paul, to Nostradamus, to Edgar Cayce.
Same shit's been going on for the last 2000 years, what makes your lifetime any different?

In 2 Peter 3-4 , he is aware of the failed expectations of early believers. He knows that Jesus, who was to come soon, didn't come at all. Many have begun to ask, "Where is the promise of his coming?" He tries to cover for Jesus by claiming that "one day with the Lord is as a thousand years."
