An art teacher removed from the classroom for encouraging pupils not to eat meat vowed Monday not to return to Fox River Grove Middle School until it eliminates milk and all other animal products from the lunch menu.
Dave Warwak, 44, also said he plans to ask the McHenry County state's attorney to file child-endangerment charges against the school district because the school continues to promote milk and other animal products as part of a healthy diet.

personally i think milk products and meat are to an extent injurious to people's health--but the problem is mostly how they're produced in the u.s. rather than the animal products themselves. that said, it isn't a teacher's job to force any certain lifestyle on children.
and how much do you want to bet the school has soda and snack vending machines?
Alright, veggie fundy! That's a new twist. Probably a PETAbot. Hey Warwak, humans are omnivores. Nice that you choose not to eat whatever you don't want to but quit trying to shove your choice down other people's throats.
We could also starve them. You know, plants are living beings too. Drinking milk, we haven't killed the cow and he's already protesting, imagine if we provide eggs or grain, which is part of the animals diet(a vegan fundie is always interesting)
Vegetarians choose to believe irrational things and go out of their way to live outside the norm. They become a burden on those around them through nagging and attempts to convert others. They deny our heritage as omnivores in favor of an invented set of morals.
Fundies, the lot of them.
Yes, meat contains proteins that your body needs to repair itself that can't be found in vegetables. Milk has calcium that makes your bones stronger.
Fundies come in many flavors.
Removing him from his class seemed a bit extreme, but his reaction certainly was as well.
I'm not vegan but I support the lifestyle and there is certainly no harm in it, just don't force it down other people's throats.
And to Ozymandias and Delmania:
There's a difference between eating animal products and abusing animals. Not all animal rights supporters are vegan (I'm an example of that) and not all vegans are animal rights supporters.
Let's not get the two confused now, shall we?
And to Ningen: The vegan lifestyle certainly isn't what we've evolved to accept but that doesn't make it irrational. As omnivores, we (and are supposed to) consume both plants and animals, given that, we can also choose one extreme or the other if we so desire. If you care about the welfare of other creatures (and it's justified by sources outside of your beliefs), you aren't irrational, you just care more than the average person.
Also: what about the vegans that don't force their lifestyle on others? As in: most vegans.
Finally: aren't all morals invented?
Well my allotment hardly seems even, but it turned out that there was more to deal with in the posts.
If all the guy was doing was stating his own opinions about meat to the class, making it absolutely clear that he was not representing the opinion of the school and letting them decide whether to eat the damn stuff or not, you could probably make a case that he shouldn't have been removed.
On the other hand I'd consider what he did next, ie attempting to force his will on the rest of the establishment and take away the kids' option to eat animal products altogether, grounds for immediate dismissal.
If I had my way, this guy would be required to eat bacon cheeseburgers and pulled-pork sandwiches at least once a day every day for a week. (He can have all the veggies he wants after he finishes the big meaty sandwiches.)
And then top it off with a nice thick bistecca alla fiorentina, for which it has been said that the only acceptable vegetable accompaniment is wine.
And then, two days later, a surprise roast turkey dinner with a bottle of Christian Bros. brandy. There will be no side dishes.

The issues here is not about animal rights or veganism. It's about fundamentalism.
Fundamentalism appears in many forms, and to a variety of degrees. However, the notion is still the same, forcing your ideas on people againt their will.
Yahweh has placed a link to the PETA's website into the base template of this site, so that every single page has it. If you visit this site, you can't avoid it. He's forcing his views on you, regardless of what you want. Yes, it's true it is my choice to visit this site, but for a site that claims to be making fun of fundamentalism, it seems to be ironic that the admin is basically doing something that could be considered fundamentalist himself.
Eh, okay... I can understand a teacher advocating for students to learn where the things they consume come from. And I can understand a teacher advocating that a school should not serve junk food. Why an art teacher would get into that, though...
Certainly a school should be suspicious of milk, due to health concerns and hormones and the fact that many people have milk allergies. I would figure schools anymore would have other drinks, either fortified juices or soy. There are better alternatives to milk.
I remember that my school primarily served fries, junky snack food, and things like greasy pizza and chicken nuggets... Maybe they'd have a case if the school really wasn't promoting the consumption of a proper diet with vegetables and fruits.
What, is he courting votes from the Livestock League?
I've been trying very hard to accumulate feedback concerning animal rights, but the most articulate answer I got so far is, MooOOooo.
Seems we have revolution here in America erupting under our noses and there is not much we can do about it. This revolution pits compassionate children against their uncaring parents. The revolution even has a name, “Vegan America Revolt!” The revolution was born from incidents surrounding Dave Warwak and his persistent attempts to teach Humane Education at Fox River Grove Middle School. Warwak said, “I can’t understand why they are fighting so hard against something so good. The World is behind us and prepared to help. There is every reason in the world for the school to go vegan and not one single reason to do otherwise” PETA’s Vice President, Bruce Friedberg is offering to help Fox River Grove Middle School with its transition to a vegan diet “We'll pay for food for a week, get vegan chefs in to help and consult, whatever”. The “Chicago Animal Rights Meetup Group”, “Mercy for Animals”, and other groups around the world are prepared to step in and help Fox River Grove Middle School become the first vegan public school in America. The “CARMG” is embarking on a campaign to educate the youth of America. The group’s president, Shalesh Kumbhat and Warwak are very enthusiastic about the group’s new focus. The campaign consists of passing out small business cards to children wherever they may be. Thanks to Kumbhat’s efforts and his extensive connections, animal rights groups, vegetarians, vegans, and humane educators all over the world will be passing out business cards to children wherever they may be. Warwak said, “Groups are hitting the streets, during times when children are most likely to be out and about. Groups are already planning on a full force presence on Halloween. Even vegans who stay home will be passing out vegan candies accompanied by a message of love.” Warwak, then went on to say, “So far today, I passed out 34 cards!”
The business card’s front reads:
Remember the Santa Claus lie?
One lie is so big, some people prefer to keep it hidden.
So hidden, some never find out!

The back reads:

At this point I'd like to officially award Dave Warwak my own personal "Get Off My Side, Dammit" prize.
Because really...having a positive impact is more important than telling everyone you're right.
lol @ 'all veggies are backward, pain in the ass fundamentalists!' and 'putting links to something you believe in on a website is fundamentalism!'
What if it were 'support gay rights' instead of animal rights? I've seen animal welfare websites with xtain links or overtones because whomever runs the sites obviously believes in xtianity. Expressing it is the same as 'omg they're shoving it in my face!'
Sheez people.
Hey Dave;
I remember when you were a fishing guide in Lake Genveva. I went out on the lake with you once. You were a great guide and a good guy. We are neighbors in Williams Bay.
I heard you dropped the guide service and went veggie last year. I saw both of your boats up for sale. At first it bummed me out but I am happy that you found your "calling." I don't know if there is a cause I would change my life and give up my livelihood for. It takes guts.
Even though I am not a vegan, you are a decent person and I wish you well.
This guy needs to face reality. As much as he (and myself, even) would like everyone to stop eating meat, it will never happen . Even though I think he means well deep down, this is just ridiculous.
Maybe you need to work in some other career field, somewhere far far away from a school, Wak. Or open your own school, for Vegans. If dealing with meat and dairy eaters is too...taxing. Just a suggestion.
The people posting here are all retards.
1. Non-organic milk and meat are full of antibiotics and hormones fed to the animals they were obtained from.
2. Even though cows aren't killed to get non-organic milk, they're still forced to live in disgusting conditions, they never see pasture, and they get all kinds of diseases which is why they're given antibiotics.
3. Humans may be omnivores, whatever, but that is no reason for FUCKING TORTURING animals in slaughterhouses. Would you like to be hung upside-down, have your throat slit, and slowly die as all of your blood pours out around you? Didn't think so, assholes.
"The people posting here are all retards."
Uhm, Anna? Here's a tip:
Making blanket statements doesn't lend your argument any credibility.
Actually: insulting everyone in a thread actually polarizes some people against you. So please, next time before you try to make a good point, learn to debate effectively.
PS: Cap Locks is also a no-no.

Dave Warwak received a strong warning today from his hometown police, during the town’s annual homecoming parade.
Accompanied by his dog, Warwak allegedly entered the town’s parade and passed out small cards to children.
The warning came in response to parent and teacher complaints who were in attendance.
Police stopped Warwak, escorted him home and instructed him to “stay away from the town’s children”.
At particular issue with police was Warwak telling children, Santa Claus is not real.
The card’s front reads:

A teacher of ten years in Illinois, Warwak was recently fired for his vegan views. Warwak filed an appeal in response to his termination. No date has been set.

As far as substituting fruit juices or soy for milk:
BLARGH! Fruit juices would have to be enriched with calcium, which is invariably not as absorbable as the calcium found in milk.
And I would rather never drink milk again than put that vile soy-based dairy substitute known as "soymilk" to my lips. That stuff is disgusting!
So is soycheese, "veggie" burgers, and most other products out there for vegans. You get more taste eating the box it comes in (plus fiber!).
I support your decision to not eat meat. Please support mine to not eat fake meat.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
