Though I agree that they have freedom of speech and equal access, the Quakers message of peace is a bit skewed according to Scripture. You don't gain peace by laying down your sword. You gain peace by using your sword until there are no more enemies in front of you. Having said that, understand also that war is a last resort when all other diplomatic, peaceful solutions have failed.

Considering your principles, that means always.
I guess after you have killed everyone that disagrees with you, there would be peace - for a little while.
Until you start fighting amongst yourselves.
Just like Jesus did.
Oh wait...
Well,if he talks about the old testament stuff, he is right...
the god of the old testament had no scruples about ordering the israelites to go to war and to commit genocides
if I remember correctly there was even a military leader who was punished by god, because he spared some of the women (not virgin) of the defeated tribe instead of killing them all as god had ordered ;)
And we all know, that christian fundamentalists usually have moe love for the mindset shown in the old testament than for the mindset of the alleged founder of their religion according to the new testament ;)
"I'm sorry my friend, you've been so misled. You don't know Jesus at all"
I forget who wrote that song, but it just fits perfectly in this situtation.
That "peace by the sword" was the tool of Rome, the very people Jesus was so set against!
As shocking as it is to decent human sensibilities, I can't really call this fundamentalist. This is the basic Christian definition of peace; the elimination, by conversion or conquest, of non-Christians. A treaty that permits the (non-Christian) enemy to continue existing alongside the Christian is a compromise with evil. That's why the Antichrist, in Revelations, will be called a peacemaker, and why Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will make his return by killing everyone who rejects Him.
That being said, Enlightenment humanism has neutered Christianity significantly - note the mushy 'war is a last resort' qualifier - so very few Christians actually follow the definition of peace that their book requires of them. Islam, OTOH, still clings to the old "kill 'em all and let Allah sort 'em out" style.
"Sounds like a Rapture Retard. I found it funny that they specifically have a "No Pacifists" clause in their Terms of Service. "
If you won't kill for Christ, you don't really believe in Him.
"ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant." -- Tacitus
[where they make a desert, they call it peace.]
@Lady Amairany Gray
He is right, of course...
after you have killed all the unbelievers, their wifes, children and cattle, you have peace...
at least until a religious war breaks loose between the different factions of your own religion, for example over the important question whether Jesus wore his hair short or long :D
You gain peace by using your sword until there are no more enemies in front of you.
Yeah, that'd do it, alright.

Re:this thread
By the initial poster's logical reasoning, the only way to gain peace is to launch total war, until the only nation state that remains after said war is yours...
As I recall from Doctor Who, that's the argument that Davros uses to justify both the Dalek's creation & existance...
Incedentally, Mr O'Brien has called to confirm your appointment for Room 101...

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way in real life. In many cases, once all of the easily recognizable enemies are slaughtered, the people in power quickly find themselves at a loss to maintain their relevance. So they go after not-so visible enemies. Soon, they will go after people who look like they might be enemies (just in case), and from their, they drop all facades and start creating enemies whole cloth.
This is essentially what happened during the inquisition. Its legacy exists today in the very uneasy truce among fundamentalist branches, who will turn on each other the second there are no more vocal atheists to vent their mutual hatred on. The irony of this situation seems to be tragically lost to them.

The Quakers, unlike you, AC, knew about a little something called the 6th Commandment. Y'know, what you might have heard about, if you'd actually read the Bible that's supposedly the very basis of your beliefs?
"Having said that, understand also that war is a last resort when all other diplomatic, peaceful solutions have failed"
Diplomacy. Dumbya had no concept of it (he had no concept of reality, period). Probably the reason why you of the Religious Right had your tongues up his arsehole for eight years.
When I was in the army, they told us we strove for a peace of the living, not of the dead. But what do we hippie Canadians know, right?
Still, he's just another Internet tough guy who thinks killing real people is like a video game. He'd change his tune in a flash if confronted with actual harm to his precious person.
Didn't Jesus say something about those that live by the sword, die by the sword?
Seems to me, he was a lot more about the diplomatic approach.
Confused?
