1. I am given the only 100% effective way to keep myself free of AIDS and impregnating someone else. Condoms have an...11% failure rate, I believe? That's about 100,000 failures for every 1,000,000 condom uses!
2. I am WAY to young to be thinking about that kind of a relationship. I'm just a child, people!
3. I don't have to go through the embarrassment of my teacher showing us...those things...like that crazed teacher in the movie Juno..

From the National Education Association's Health Information Network site:

The average published condom breakage rate is around 3 percent. The majority of breaks do not result in exposure, and it is clear that most breaks occur as the result of incorrect use. A recent study (Albert, Warner, Hatcher, Trussell, and Bennett) suggests that regular condom use may lead to condom mastery and the development of techniques to reduce the likelihood of breakage and slippage.

And that's after they explain that "failure rate" is a pretty pointless term as it isn't specific enough to be meaningful. Care to try again.

Aside from that, sex isn't the only way to contract AIDS nimrod.

Quick comments:
1. Isn't 99.997% good enough? (chance of a condom failing according to my PD/H/PE textbook) If you also go on the pill that makes um...99.96% (I hope I calculated that right, book said something like 99.97% for the pill)
2. Good point. However it doesn't hurt to learn more.
3. Juno isn't a good source, and even if you do find it embarrassing (mostly they just talk about it anyway), it's a lot better to understand what you can do to avoid pregnancy or STDs by being taught preventative measures.

As a 'child' myself (or at least not an adult) let me say that knowledge is always best to have, rather than denial or ignorance.

However, that being said, if you don't wish to learn, I see it as your choice to not have to do so. No one should be FORCED to learn about it all. But that doesn't mean it's something bad to learn. (It's actually rather useful)

Ah. So they taught "abstinence-until-death," did they? No, of course not. You were taught "abstinence until marriage," but never told what happens AFTER marriage. Nor, I'm betting, were you taught what was so special about marriage that makes it the one and only time you can start having sex. Come to think of it, I don't know either.

Er, guys? Where are you getting your 'condoms are 99% effective' rates from?

Not to play the part of the jackass here, but condoms are 85% effective with typical use (which I understand also includes when people only wear them half the time - failure due to breakage is much lower and more in line with the 99% effective quote I'm seeing) and 97% with perfect use. Hormonal methods are 92% typical and 99.9% perfect (as cited on various websites like planned parenthood and advocates for youth). And I hope the idea of wearing 2 condoms at a time was a joke. Just cause we're not fundies doesn't mean we can pull shit out of our asses and pass it off as fact too.

This guy has a serious problems with maths and cognitive science. To begin with, the percentage is far lower and he doesn't appreciate that the incidence is not arithmetic.
Second, he's a child, and?, following his stupid logic, he shouldn't learn algebra or chemistry, since he's not going to be an engineer or do research on the impact of GW for the government. And if he's taught abstinence-only, it means, whether he does it or not, that he's not that "child", because there is a possibility of having sex(don't tell the poor kid that learning about sexuality doesn't mean that he has to have sex right on the spot. It can traumatise his already messed up brain). That could explain why you are unable to separate fact from fiction(Juno is a movie)

Now, I saw Juno back in January, so I don't remember the movie line to line, but all I know that it was mentioned about the banana and the condom in a line, NOT SHOWN.

Anyways, by her quoting the awesome (but extremely unrealistic) Juno, she proved that fundies will trash anything that goes against what they believe.

Also, wasn't Juno, I don't know... FICTIONAL?

1. Abstinence-only sex is not 100% effective at preventing AIDS or pregnancy. Just because you say "I'm not gonna do it" doesn't mean you're not going to get raped.

Also, hmm... didn't Jesus's mom practice abstinence?

Also, it's more like... around 1-3 percent.

As for 2 and 3, education helps with prevention, and hey, it's best to learn it while you're still young.

Also, looking at drawn charts of genital anatomy isn't embarassing when done as a group. Though it could get embarassing if your teacher shows his genitalia to the entire class.

Real sexual education doesn't teach you that you should have sex, stupid. It teaches you both how it's done (what to expect, whenever you decides to get rid of your virginity) and how to avoid unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

1. You probably go to non-driving school too, right. The only 100% effective way to keep yourself from killing someone with or be killed by a car.
2. You have to learn about these things BEFORE it's time, stupid. After you have started dating it might be too late.
3. Yeah, one hour of slight embarrassment is much, much worse than a lifetime of taking care of an unwanted child, the result of your first boyfriend being rather too forceful, and of you not knowing how to defend and/or protect yourself.

The good thing about knowledge is that once you have it, you can decide not to use it. Just because you know how to not get pregnant, doesn't mean you have to have sex right away.

Just as no-one should be FORCED to learn math or how to drive a car, right? Sex-ed is just as important as math, history, English, biology and proper driving. You should learn sex-ed, not just for your own sake, but for the sake of all your future sex partners as well.
