Of course. It's our fault. Not the straights who refuse to believe that they're safe, simply because they're not gay. Not the intravenous drug users who share dirty needles, because, ya know, it can ONLY be transmitted via sexual acts. Not the religious right who vehemently opposed letting kids even know condoms exist, because it will somehow drive them into a frothing, sex crazed frenzy. It is OUR fault. Gotcha.

I'm not sure that this guy is a fundie so much as frustrated due to the misinformation he is bombarded with from his fellow conservatives. His comment seems to be a condemnation of unprotected sex among homosexuals rather than an actual attempt to bash them directly... such problems do still exist. He also does not appear to be arguing that AIDS is solely a homosexual disease but rather appears to be recognizing that it largely gained prominence within gay communities due to promiscuous practices that had existed in them.
His mistake is in not realizing that a big part of the modern AIDS problem is based out of unprotected sex in Africa that takes place because the churches there teach against the use of condoms. Ignorance of that fact doesn't make him a fundie so much as misinformed due to a conservative reliance on news sources that don't cover that issue much.
I have to go 'meh' on this one... it's a common view even among conservatives that aren't particularly religious (and yeah, they exist).

Once a vaccine's been discovered (which is 100% effective), you'll be screaming blue fucking murder. Science will have robbed you fundies of another source of righteous anger ('AIDS is God's vengeance on Gays!').
So many people who are HIV+ are living longer with the meds available. And not all of them are homosexual, neither. Nor did they become infected via unprotected sex.
Smallpox, a previously lethal disease, was all but made extinct by the Smallpox Eradication Programme in 1950-80. The disease exists only in a few culture flasks in a few labs around the world.

The gay community (which does sort of exist, although exit82 probably imagines it to be far more organised) pretty much have the safe sex thing down pat. Hence in the western world the new incidence figure for HIV/AIDS in either sexuality is very low.
The massive spread of aids is mainly in hetrosexuals living in sub-Saharan Africa. Years of poor education, faith-based aid organisations refusing to educate people or distruibute contraception and worst of all the denialist attitude of Mbeki's government in RSA have snowballed the problem.

1. Hetero people spread AIDs much faster than gays do.
2. Much more money has been spent on cancer research than people think. Problem is that not only are there many kinds of cancer, but there are many causes (radiation, chemicals, bad genes, etc.). Cures only work one specific cancer types. The best we have right now is to try to treat cancer and hope that the body will be able to take care of the rest.
Remember the South Park episode where Cartman was accidentally given AIDS by a doctor.
Yea, that actually does happen sometimes due to negligence. And some people (mostly heterosexuals) don't tell their partners they have AIDS when they have sex with them.
Except that if you focused all your efforts on the gay community you would still have HIV/AIDS because it permeates the heterosexual community as well.

And yet you have a problem with the vaccine for cervical cancer that was developed from the extensive research into how the human immune system works.
And what about research on other viruses? By studying the way AIDS affects the immune system, we have made huge strides in combating other viruses. But I guess that is just too complicated for you to understand.

As for Cancer research funding it seems to be some deep dark secret. I can't find it (I would like to see the 2007 numbers for a fair comparison).

Right, because the fact that many of todays AIDS transmissions are from unprotected straight sex, like after a man has sex with an infected prostitute and passes it along to his wife, are "teh GAYZ!!1!" fault.

Most people who contract AIDS today are heterosexuals in Africa, where it's often considered a sin to use protection, and where femal arousal is sometimes conceived as icky. Having "dry" sex can create smal lesions which makes it easier for the virus to get into the body.

The National Cancer Institute receives about $5 billion annually from the government. Ironically, the "one forth the money" of exit82's post. There is also the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program of the DoD, which is another $5 billion, much of which is spent on cancer research ($2.3 billion on breast cancer alone in 2009).
