[A 15-year-old girl has given birth at a school in Bradford. The baby was born in a medical room at St Joseph's Catholic College in Cunliffe Road on Friday, a school spokesman said. An ambulance was called but the girl had given birth by the time it arrived. The Year 11 pupil is not thought to have known she was pregnant.]
I'm glad she didn't know she was pregnant or I could garentee she would have aborted him.

My mom had me when she was 16. Clearly I wasn't aborted.
Before the comments come in, it is possible to be pregnant, full-term, without knowing it. Especially in the young, before any recognizable pattern exists with periods. Unlikely and unusual, but possible.

I had a cousin who thought that she was just having gas problems.
IIRC, this was her third kid.
How about the unknown dangers the baby is facing because she DIDN'T know she was pregnant?
Cat boxes, alcohol, air pollution, loud noises, playing sports, rough sex, illegal drugs, legal drugs, over the counter drugs; she could've used some doctor visits! No, it would've been better that she did know for the baby and mother's health.
If you're just going to make random claims about the personality of people you don't know, you might as well say she would've been the type of person to have been so scared by the situation that she would've thrown her baby away in a dumpster if someone hadn't been around her. In such a fantasy situation she would've been better prepared to deal with the shock in advance had she known and so it happening a few hours later when someone was around is all that saved the child's life. In short you're an idiot and there are plenty of teenagers who want to keep their children or at least give them up for adoption. You cannot make a judgement call on someone who you know from a few lines written about her by a reporter.
Just an interjection.. It is possible to be quite pregnant.. in my personal experience 6mos.. and not know. I started Martial Arts when I was 15, joined the Marines when I was 19.. so my menstrual cycle was ALWAYS askew. As for the gaining weight.. when I got pregnant, it was VERY shortly after I had left bootcamp.. When I was in bootcamp, I was quite thin.. then started working at a donut shop.. the extra pounds.. which in reality weren't all that much, was chalked up to the occupational hazards of working in a donut shop. Then.. at 6 mos.. DON'T LAUGH.. one night I thought I had a BAD BAD case of gas. (Ok.. you better not be laughing) I went to my Mom's house and talked to her and she suggested.. just for good measure, we go get a pregnancy test.. SURPRISE. My "little fart" was born 3 mos later.
So.. I have heard of cases of people claiming that they didn't know they were pregnant until the baby was born.. I can't say whether they were lying or not.. but I DO know that it is at least possible to make it up to the 6th month.
Ok.. you can laugh a little.
The set-up here is quite unclear. (a little poem by papabear)
Was the baby born at the school, or at the college, or in the ambulance?
As a paramedic, I was called to two instances of dumb-as-dirt women who gave birth in the toilet because they had no idea they were pregnant. Just amazing.
Qgirl, you have no way of knowing what the pregnant girl would have done had she known she was pregnant. She might have gotten high-quality pre-natal care, taken vitamins, stopped smoking and drinking so that she would have a healthy baby. So, basically, the ignorance you are glad for is essentially child abuse.
Papabear, the college *is* the school, from the context given. UK terminology.
I once knew a girl who went through an entire pregnancy in such deep denial that she swore she wasn't pregnant, even though her boyfriend and all her friends told her that she was - it was that obvious to everyone. She eventually gave birth on the floor of the restroom in her dormitory.
They got married the next week.
Oh man, you guys don't know the half of it. This girl was fucken CRAZY. I'm on youthink, and she is, and has been the resident nut of the site.
"I'm glad she didn't know she was pregnant or I could garentee she would have aborted him."
Actually, it may have been better that way. A girl is not physically prepared to give birth until she's about 16 years old; getting pregnant younger than that can harm the fetus and/or mother.
But as long as the baby and mother are healthy and she wasn't raped and she wants to raise the baby than it's all okay. But never put the life of a fetus ahead of the life of a mother. Then again, to a "pro-lifer" a fully developed female (but not male) human has less of a right to live than a fetus.
Confused?
