If we really existed as a species for thousands and thousands of years, writing should go back 50,000 years at least, possibly even 100,000 years.

Only very stupid atheists would say "coincidence" or "Luck. Pure luck" rather than simply telling you that your facts are wrong. If writing was traced back to exactly 6000 years, you might have a tiny point. But the earliest true writing has been dated back to 3200 years ago, proto-writing 9000 years. However, there is evidence to suggest that Neolithic cave-painters were using a very primitive form of writing. But in any case, you Young-Earthers don't believe in the validity of modern dating methods, surely?
Oh, and the answer to "How many times can a person say 'coincidence' or 'luck, pure luck' before it stops being a coincidence or pure luck?" is "an infinite amount".

I'm not certain as to the reason, but I rather enjoy Self-Mutation's additions to this website. They deliberately devote enormous amounts of their time to promote religious or similar arguments on a board with a large proportion of atheists, using arguments that are structurally sound but based on fallacies and idiocies. They are either the most dedicated troll since the writer of My Immortal, or a hopelessly deluded fool utterly convinced of their own superiority and the inherent correctness of their arguments, no matter how much reality they must ignore. It's fascinating to watch.

Also, drawings can be considered a form of language, as they are often used for communication, and some have been found to be tens of thousands of years old. Just thought I'd add that.

Why, exactly?

You realize that if you don't have civilization you're essentially hunter gatherers subsisting on whatever you're lucky enough to hunt or gather that day, right? That doesn't leave a lot of time for things like writing, hence the reason it didn't develop until humans settled permanently in one location and domesticated crops and animals.

I say neither of those. My explanation above is much more robust than that, and backed by evidence.

ancient sumerian texts date as far back as 27000 BC. ever heard of the rossetta stone? its a tablet with the same thing written in sumerian, egyptian hieroglyphs(18000 BC) and Latin. it is how we are able to translate sumerian, a language so dead, we dont even know how the words would be pronounced. it is also how we know that pretty much the whole of the bible is completely ripped off from sumerian texts. creation, flood, water walking, son of god, sin, angels, heaven, the whole shebang, can be traced back to sumerian origins.

nice straw man, by the way. i barely even recognized it. atheists would not say "coincidence" or "luck"(same thing, by the way), they would tell you that "that is how long it took for humans to develop the written word".

The Rosetta Stone has an inscription in "classical" Egyptian using hieroglyphs, Demotic Egyptian cursive and ancient Greek. It was used to decode the hieroglyphs by isolating names.

Sumerian was deciphered indirectly via Akkadian using a multilingual inscriptions with ancient Persian. The oldest Sumerian texts date back to about 3200 BC, not 27000.

Forerunners were so-called tokens found throughout the Middle East, especially in the Indus region.

Water walking, son of god, sin, angels, and heaven (in the Biblical sense) are not attested in Sumerian texts. They do, however, appear in part in Ugaritic texts, in the KRT legend.

We've only had flight for a century. The screw is only about 2500 years old. THe steam engine was only invented about 2 and half centuries ago. The blast furnace is.... Well I could go on.

So just what is the point?

I read more of that thread. When presented with a bone flute that was apparently made by neanderthals who died out 30,000+ years ago, his immediate objection was to say it might have been a weapon, not a flute. For some reason, he didn't seem to think a 30,000+ year-old weapon (or a species that died out 30,000 years ago, for that matter) would disprove a 6000-year-old universe, but a 30,000+ year-old flute would. It wasn't until several people pointed this out that he backpedaled and claimed that the dating methods are flawed, and the object in question couldn't possibly be that old.

Of course, if he dismisses the dating of the flute, then he also has to dismiss the dating of this written language that he claims is proof of a 6000-year-old universe. Even with his complete ignorance of everything else discussed in that topic, the simplest logic should have told him that much.

Nonsense. If writings about imaginary beings exist, it only means that humans wrote their stories when they could write. There were cultures, oral traditions and idols before that.

Writing and deities are human inventions, so no. Even if humans like us existed 300k years ago, it doesn't mean that everything humans invented appeared 300k years ago. There's much science that has only been developped in the last few hundred years, for instance. You're denying that humans can be very ignorant and need culture transmission to vehiculate knowledge. But you're evidence that some people can be left behind.
