Well, that's a poor analogy. I would assume that most fish are as unaware of the water around them as you are of the air around you; they'd only miss it if it weren't there.
Your deity on the other hand, just like all the rest of them, appears to have the same effect whether it's present or not.

You know, it's entirely possible that without evidence of, say, air, a fish might actually not believe in water. Wind aside, it's not too hard for a completely uneducated person (such as a child) to think of air as nothingness; why would a fish think any differently about water?
