If your "lately" covers at least a few centuries (do names like Diderot, Voltaire or Rousseau for example ring a bell?) and if by "decieving" you mean "enlighten people, give them a larger perspective and point out the incoherencies of the Xian fairy tale", then you are perfectly correct.
