When our Men and Women of he Pulpit(s) are accussed (whether innocent or guilty) of these ludicrous acts it always invokes a negative view if the Gospel of Jesus Christ... This is an example of persecution whether it be media driven or whether our Christian leaders bring it on themselves...

I know nothing about Pastor Long, and it appears the matter is sub judice, so I cannot comment on the particular case.

In a general sense, fundyism does seem to expect believers to hand over the souls, and even their bodies, to the church and its preachers. It denies individual rights if these in any way conflict with the aims and goals of the fundy organisation. It is not too far a step to the abuse of the power that this mindset bestows on 'church' leaders. It even goes to the extremes of Jonestown and Waco. The wonder is that the kind of brainwashing that is encountered in some fundy circles is not proscribed by law - or is it? Or if it is, then why is the law not applied?

@Cid: Indeed you are. If a major Christian figure does something wrong, then the media only draws attention to it to "persecute" Christians and their religion. It has absolutely nothing to do with, y'know, the heinousness of that particular individual's crimes or anything like that. It's all part of a smear campaign against Christians everywhere, nothing else. image

Christian fundies look for ways they're "persecuted", because they believe their Holy book says they're going to be persecuted in the "end times". Thing is, in the United States, Christianity is still accepted and catered to far more than any other religion, so they invariably end up looking like delusional jackasses when they try to play the religious-persecution card.

Obviously, since you are a wise Rapture Readian, I must agree with your assertion in these matters since you are scripturally in advance of most of the population of the world. If Rapture Ready or a Rapture Readian says that the Men and Women of their Pulpit wish to coerce people in to having sex with them, no matter what their age, then it is right that they should be allowed to do so. If the media report on any criminal wrong doing by your Men and Women of the Pulpit, then the media are a plaything of Satan. For goodness sake, they are Christian leaders, their victims are merely demonic puppets who should be exorcised. The media must be made to spin in Christianity's favour in order that your Men and Women of the Pulpit can ravage at their ease without undue hindrance and petty interference.

This unconscionable attitude is giving the public at large the wrong idea of the utter atrociousness of Christianity. I think Rapture Ready and its leaders should mount a strong campaign of support for wicked pastors and pedophile preachers, particularly when it involves homosexual pedophilia, and show the public just how truly atrocious Christians can be.

Don't be too downhearted, In Christ. I've got some very cool persecution for you. Hopefully, that'll make the rapture sooner than even soon. OK, I know what you're thinking, "What's a few million years when we're talking billions". Well, OK. But, if we can get millions of people to persecute you, then maybe we can knock a few billion years off. Hey! I've got a brilliant idea. Why not set up a chapter of Rapture Ready in Saudi Arabia. You're sure to get bags of genuine fist-class persecution there. No? Well, it's just that your too comfortable in America. You're not likely to be persecuted as you'd like to be.

Oh well. Just a thought. Now on with my persecution.

1) Men and women of your Pulpit who are sexual predators are criminal arseholes.

2) God's a genocidal maniac. (Well, He would be if He existed).

3) Rapture Readyians are drooling morons.

4) Rapture Ready supports criminal pastors.

Okay, I can understand if he's innocent how you might have some justification in thinking that it's persecution; you'd still be wrong as accusing someone of a crime is not a form of persecution, but I can see how people that are used to making themselves out to be the victim could think that. However, it takes a particularly twisted mind to call taking a guilty person to task for their crimes persecution.

The media isn't fucking persecuting you, they're just interested in a sensational story. That your people keep giving them exactly that is no fault of the media.

1) This is most often the case, where most of your problems are self-inflicted.

2) If they're bringing it on themselves then how in the hell can it be persecution? By that logic suicide victims are martyrs.

Accusing someone falsely of a crime as part of a larger pattern of marginalization etc. of a minority group to which they belong []can[] and has been a form of persecution. For example, accusing Jews of sticking pins into wax models of local bishops, or of sneaking into your house to have sex with your wife after he loses so badly at cards you've taken his clothes. (Real stories.)

However, this guy is from a majority group, fairly likely to actually be guilty, and accused because he was implicated, not because he was a pastor. If Jucef had actually broken in to rape the guy's wife (or even to have consensual sex with her, since that was illegal too), bringing the law on him wouldn't have been persecution, even though his group was ACTUALLY persecuted.

Now, I need to go write my term paper on medieval persecution. Blah.

Yes! It's that time once again! Time to play Guess The Sinner!!

All you have to do is guess which of the two scenarios I give will lead to no condemnation in one case and eternal agony in God's very own torture chambers in the other case. The winner gets to feel totally sanctimonious for two whole minutes and will be allowed to drool indiscriminately for ten whole minutes. The loser will more than likely consign themselves to hell for being inadequately scripturally prepared. You have to guess the scenario that leads to eternal torture to win. OK. Ready?

Here's scenario A. The man who is a pastor enjoys raping choristers.

Here's scenario B. The man eats at a restaurant that he knows will knowingly serve homosexuals.

Ludicrous? It might be considered ludicrous if it weren't so often true, but it is, so you can drop the holier-than-thou pretense of righteous indignaton.

I'm sorry, are the pastor's claiming "Jesus made me do it"? Are people reporting on the matter claimng that? No, they are not. Even though several places in the OT come damn close to outright advocating or sanctioning rape.

Give me a fucking break. it;s not persecution if they actually commited the act they are being accused of. Moreover, one person being accused of rape or sexual coertion has to do with their actions, not with their relgious beliefs. And certainly does not amount, in any way, shape of form, to persecution of christianity as a whole.

Get. Over. Yourselves. In western civilization, your choice of christianity as a religion does not make you a target of persecution, no matter how badly you want it to.
