HOWEVER. These are all choices that you are allowed to make. Feminism isn't about limiting choices; it's about having the ability to choose. I never want children, I never want a husband or a wife... basically, I never want anything to do with the typical "family" scene.
Feminism is what allows me to have a life that isn't devoted to kids or a husband. Quite frankly, if I was forced to live as a devoted wife and pop out kids, I would kill myself. That is not an exaggeration or a statement said without thought and consideration. I could not live like that, I could not live that life, and I would either force a way for me to live differently or I would end my life.
I respect women who stay at home to take care of the kids, or put up a child for adoption rather than abort it, or raise a child in a loving, opposite-sex environment but only if it is their choice. If that is truly what they want, then all the more power to them.
I respect women who work outside the home, who have an abortion rather than give birth to a child they don't want, who raise their child in a single-parent or same-sex parent household it is their choice.
Feminism is about giving women more options, not destroying and replacing the roles women can already choose. Feminism is just as much about the stay-at-home wife as it is about the career woman. Feminism is what ensures that the stay-at-home wife plays that role because she wants to, not because she's forced into it.
Which would you prefer, Mamacags? Being raised by a happy, healthy stay-at-home mom who is honestly happy to not work in order to be with her children, or being raised by a mom who desperately wishes she could get out of the house and do something else productive with her life besides raising children.
Would you honestly want your mother your own mother to be forced to stay at home with you 24/7, even if she was miserable because of it, just to preserve the outdated concept of the "traditional family"?
Feminism means you give a damn about what women besides yourself want.
Feminism means you comprehend that all women are different, and want different things out of life than you do.
Feminism means that you wake up, poke your head outside of your own personal, selfish little bubble, and realize that women are not a collective hive mind that only focuses on the family and home life.
In short, feminism is the radical belief that women are human beings.
