If you are an atheist...you had better be right!

And if you aren't an atheist -- you had better be right about WHICH god you worship and right about HOW you worship it, or it still won't make any difference, will it?
Personally, I couldn't handle the stress of relying on faith!
~David D.G.
If there is a God, and he's benevolent, doing the right thing ought to count for far more than belief. If he's malevolent and wants to torture us for all eternity, he can come up with an excuse to do so (whether we're believers or not). If he really does reward suck-ups while tormenting the rest of us, that doesn't sound like the sort of being we ought to worship. Either way, it doesn't make much difference whether we believe or not.
Actually, we'd be covered if some of the other faiths were true (Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Ancient Greek mythology, The Cthulhu Mythos).
As a Buddhist, I believe that good people go to Heaven...
Which means that a lot of "Christians" won't be there...

I'm reasonably confident I'm right, given the evidence (or rather the lack of it). There are no absolutes in this matter, of course, but bizarre propositions remain, well, quite bizarre.
And how can you be sure that your particular denomination is "right?"
- Because you follow the bible? That's what they all say.
- Because you trust your pastor? That's what they all say.
- Because Jesus assured you himself that you were on the right path? That's what they all say.
I expect that your position is on much shakier ground that you thought it was Drum4Christ. And just remember...you had better be right!
We only need to be right about one less religion less than you, which, if had a brain to think about it, you'd notice hugely improves our chances of being right.
We are not the ones who go out of our way to make our life on earth as miserable as possible in the hope of something much nicer to follow. Really, who should be hoping that they are right? Those who enjoy life and accept the almost non-existent risk that there will be a judgement day, or those who piss their life away on the one in a gazillion chance that they are actually right?
You'd better hope that we're right, because even if you are saved and go to heaven, how long do you think before God sends down you to hell? One wrong word, even one stray thought, and down to hell you go, with an eternity of torture and torment.

So, you believe in a supreme power, the source of all knowledge, laws, morality, and compassion, and the best argument you can come up with for believing in Him is a threat.
Spare us the bullying, please.
