Funny how that works out.
I'm not religious, and I've never so much as hit somebody. Ditto for my brothers. I also have many friends that don't "have religion", and they're fine people.
OTOH, I can think of several religious people I know who have had brushes with the law.
Then, of course, there's history. The Crusades, the Inquisition, 9/11, etc. Lots of bloodshed, there.
yeah, me and my athiest friends just drive around killing people for fun because we arent going to hell so theres nothing wrong with taking another persons life.

Religion is NOT what gives us empathy. I would bet money that I, an atheist, have more empathy than you have in your little toe. Also, religion has never stopped people from killing with no mercy.

Anything I could have added has already been said, and it boils down to: Religion does not have the monopoly on "morality", "empathy", or "ethical behavior", and often it's followers revel in acts devoid of all empathy and morality.

I'm an Atheist. I go by the simple philosophy of 'Treat others as you would like them to treat you', 'I wouldn't like to be killed/harmed, nor have my property stolen/damaged, so why should I do the same to others?'; 'Commit acts of gratuitous kindness' and 'Be good for goodness' sake'.
