(from an article regarding pharmacies refusing to sell birth control)
"We try to practice pharmacy in a way that we feel is best to help our community and promote healthy lifestyles," said Lloyd Duplantis, who owns Lloyd's Remedies in Gray, La., and is a deacon in his Catholic church. "After researching the science behind steroidal contraceptives, I decided they could hurt the woman and possibly hurt her unborn child. I decided to opt out."

Silly business decision, but not really too fundie.
The pharmacist is not there to decide if you really need the medicine your doctor prescribed or not. You count out the effing pills and you give me my prescription. I don't give two shits about what medicines your god wants me to take or not. If you're a pharmacist who is refusing to do his job because of your wacky religious beliefs, you're a fundie.
You’re a pharmacist, you stupid fuck. Vetting medication for its safety and effectiveness is not your job. Dispensing the medications approved by a regulating body and proscribed by doctors that is your job.
Quit trying to do a job for which you’re not qualified, and start doing the job for which you’re trained. Either that, or leave the profession.
"After researching the science behind steroidal contraceptives, I decided they could hurt the woman
YOU decided??
Right, women can't think for themselves so you'll need to make decisions for them. Move back to the 13th century you misogynist fuckwit.
Well, if she's already pregnant, it's a little late to be taking contraceptives, anyway. Think BEFORE you speak. It works better that way.
Besides which, you're not the doctor. Doctors are responsible for prescribing drugs. Your responsibility is to ensure they're the correct drugs in the correct dosages and to educate in their correct usage. It is NOT to decide whether they should be taken or not.
After researching the science behind steroidal contraceptives, I decided they could [...]possibly hurt her unborn child
Bullshit. There is no evidence to suggest that hormonal bc would have a harmful effect on a developing embryo/fetus. That's just misinformation peddled by those who would have all women made broodmares.
He's an independent businessman in a free enterprise country. He can do what he wants.
By the same token, other pharmacies can and should publicize the fact that he limits the rights of women to freely access birth control and they do not.
As far his behavior having any repercussions by professional organization governing pharmacists, I can't say but it seems to me they might object.
"Condoms, ever heard of 'em?"
In the article they say they don't provide those either:
"When DMC Pharmacy opens this summer on Route 50 in Chantilly, the shelves will be stocked with allergy remedies, pain relievers, antiseptic ointments and almost everything else sold in any drugstore. But anyone who wants condoms, birth control pills or the Plan B emergency contraceptive will be turned away."
Heeey, good thing we silly ladies have this random, God-fearing dude to make our decisions for us! Or we might go off and ooh... I don't know, have sex for pleasure? That would be terrible.
Bleargh. When are the puritans going to get their noses out of women's sex lives?
Wow, Lloyd, you won't fill my girlfriend's prescription because you have moral issues concerning her health? Okay, just give me a pack of cigarettes.
And can Scientologist pharmacists refuse to dispense antidepressants on the grounds that these conflict with their beliefs? How about a Christian Scientist pharmacists right not to dispense any medications at all, but receive equal pay to sell chewing gum and hand out healing prayer leaflets?
What percentage of a job should you be allowed to refuse to do on grounds of conscience before the rest of society gets to stand up and say that you've picked the wrong career?
Ah yes, the whole contraceptive pill thing...
Shame that this shitforbrains doesn't know/care that there are valid medical reasons for women to take the pill other than just to stop spawning. My ex's mother took them to help limit the length of her periods... When you bleed for 25 days out of every fucking month, something to reduce that can be a life-saver. (and it was... up until she had a total hysterectomy)
My ex also took the pill to regulate her periods... without them, she'd have to go months without one, then suffer week on-week off periods for months... anything to regulate that was going to do wonders for her health.
If ElFucktard here wants to actively refuse to dispense life-saving medication, then he's in need of a good, swift kick to the balls and to be banned from ever being a Pharmacist again.
Oh, and he should DIAF.
next step:
refuse to fill prescriptions to deal with STDs
refuse to fill prescriptions to help people undergoing gender re-assignment
refuse to fill any prescriptions for teh gheys!
Picking and choosing how you deal with and the circumstances is certainly NOT acceptable in public service especially public health. How long before a nurse, doctor, or paramedic is allowed to avoid treating a gay man?
We bend over backwards to avoid offending these superstitionists, yet they won't afford us gays the same courtesy
anonymous_troy: this is another step in their agenda to outlaw all forms of abortion; according to the new philosophy, once an egg is fertilized, it's a person. hormonal birth control does not stop ovulation or fertilization, it stops implantation. by pushing and pushing at the most minute details, they hope to pry open the law and make all contraception illegal. because that's the will of Gawd, you know, that we "be fruitful and multiply". every last damned one of us! nevermind that the will of Gawd seems to be easily offset by a little latex and chemistry.
Really, you went to school for two years to count pills, nothing else. Leave the science to the scientists. Before choosing a career, maybe you should consider your morality. Muslims shouldn't work for the SPCA (Dogs), PETA supporters shouldn't work in animal research facilities, Fundies shouldn't work anywhere they come into contact with the rest of society.
Edit:
Quotes from the original article.
anyone who wants condoms, birth control pills or the Plan B emergency contraceptive will be turned away.
...
"The United States was founded on the idea that people act on their conscience -- that they have a sense of right and wrong and do what they think is right and moral,"
...
The pharmacies are emerging at a time when a variety of health-care workers are refusing to perform medical procedures they find objectionable. Fertility doctors have refused to inseminate gay women. Ambulance drivers have refused to transport patients for abortions. Anesthesiologists have refused to assist in sterilizations.
...
the contraceptives promote promiscuity, divorce, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and other societal woes.
...
Many offer "alternative" products, including individually compounded prescription drugs, as well as vitamins and homeopathic and herbal remedies.
...
Some critics question how such pharmacies justify carrying drugs, such as Viagra, for male reproductive issues, but not those for women.
...
"Rape victims could end up in a pharmacy not understanding this pharmacy will not meet their needs," Greenberger said. "We've seen an alarming development of pharmacists over the last several years refusing to fill prescriptions, and sometimes even taking the prescription from the woman and refusing to give it back to her so she can fill it in another pharmacy."
...
"If I don't believe something is right, the last thing I want to do is refer to someone else,"
...
But others worry about what will happen if such pharmacies proliferate, especially in rural areas.
The biggest issue with these pharmacists is the small towns where they are THE only pharmacy within 20+ miles. Especially with gas prices going up. If there's a choice of pharmacies in town where the woman can get bc, or people can pick up condoms, it's one thing. I think the pharmacist is still stupid but, at least the populace of the town has a somewhere else to go to get them.
"The pharmacist is not there to decide if you really need the medicine your doctor prescribed or not. You count out the effing pills and you give me my prescription. Exactly, and we should fire them all and get some people in who will actually DO THEIR FUCKING JOBS WITHOUT WHINING ABOUT FUCKING GOD.
surely pharmacists have to be licensed, and surely their licensors could remove their license. Certain professions require you to leave your conscience outside to serve EVERY member of the community, and a pharmacist is one of them. Once you are allowed to pick and choose according to your conscience the service every member of the community can rightfully expect is stolen.
Excerpt from The Washington Times:
DMC Pharmacy, a pro-life Catholic pharmacy that opened with much fanfare in Chantilly, Va., in October 2008, closed last month because of lack of funds.
"We could not make it work financially," said Robert Laird, executive director for the pharmacy, whose letters stood for Divine Mercy Care. "We could never get that big push to make it viable and finally the board of directors said enough was enough."
By the time the store closed March 4, it was losing in the tens of thousands of dollars per month. When it opened 18 months ago at a cost of $350,000 just as the national economy was in a free fall, the 1,500-square-foot store on Metrotech Drive did not stock birth control pills, condoms, cigarettes or pornographic magazines.
" I decided they could hurt the woman and possibly hurt her unborn child. I decided to opt out."
If that's your honest reason, then you have to refuse to give a woman ANY type of medication. Because they all can hurt the person taking them, or a fetus if she is pregnant. So, no pain meds, anti depressants, or laxitives for ladies, because they all have side effects.
Also, you should not let any women you know drink, consume under cooked meat, drive, or smoke....because those activities are just as dangerous to women and their fetuses as birth control.
You dumbass.
