last night my nephew(6) came to spend the night, he has been watching alot of wrestling. well some spirit working through him hates my son (21 months) well i was overly protective of my son last night because my nephew's spirit kept on tormenting him. my son and i went and layed down, and my nephew came in there and said i want to sleep with you. he got at the foot of the bed, the lights were still on in the room. something told me to sit up! praise God i did, when i looked at the foot of the bed and saw my nephew he was lying there with a hammer by his side. i got him up and said come on we are going to watch a story about Jesus! you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. luke 21:16

They don't use it, "cuz it begins with'n 'sin', hyup!"
I...don't think it's a spirit. I think your nephew needs help from professionals, and fast.
That and turning off the damn wrestling wouldn't hurt.
Moderate and atheist: My nephew (21 mts) and son (6) aren't getting along - could be a problem of jealousy on the six-year old's part towards the newcomer. I need to work on getting them together as friends again.
Fundie: An evil spirit is working through my nephew, making him hate my son. Totally not my fault or responsibility, though he may require severely uncomfortable, painful and traumatizing exorcism!
Moderate/atheist: My nephew was a bit scared last night, and had to share a bed with me and my son. I have to ask him why he had a hammer with him.
Fundie: OMG my nephew tried to kill my son and all I did was show him a movie about Jebus!
I went and read the whole tread and only one fundie there didn't think that the hammer would be for hurting the younger child, but for protection.
Yes, kids do get scared and do funny things like hiding under the bed in case of fire or take some tool, hammer for example, and go to sleep next to some adult. Or how messed up and possessed by demons was I when I moved on my own and slept with knife under my pillow? x)

I'd put money on it being a brightly-coloured, plastic toy hammer rather than a real one.
And let's not forget that Jesus was pretty good with a hammer himself ;)
As a child I would often seek out metal or wooden objects that resembled a staff and carry them around with me, pretending as if I was using them as a weapon against fictional foes. Then when I got tired I'd hold on to it sometimes. This wasn't a daily, weekly, or monthly thing, but it would happen whenever the mood struck. I'd also pretend screw drivers and hammers were weapons, but I didn't carry them around with me when I was done.
So anyway either the kid was generally afraid and keeping the hammer around to protect him from his imagination or wrestling got him pumped up and he was playing with the hammer which he later kept with him. Just because he was previously picking on his little cousin, doesn't mean he had any intention of physically hurting him (you're an idiot for jumping to that insane conclusion). If your naive nature doesn't get in the way they'll probably end up being friends when your son gets older as they can both pretend they are fighting imaginary foes together. Unfortunately, I see you as the type who would end up repressing your son's urges to play in the way that is normal for a lot of young boys.
Let me guess, the nephew was either frightened by what he saw the wrestlers do or wanted to imitate them. Nothing demonic here, pretty normal sounding actually. But fundies think normal behavior is a sure sign of Satan's existence. And to the fundie, if that was a real hammer he had then you are being grossly irresponsible by keeping in a place where a child can get to it.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Don't forget that another member of evolution also used a sledgehammer!!!!
And yet another member was named Batista or "the beast" when translated from the ancient grophonphale language!!!
It's the NWO I tell ya, the NWO (oops, wrong wrestling promotion)

I slept with knives and power-tools for a while (dad took the batteries out of the latter though) as a kid. Half the time It was just a matter of not having cleared off the bed of whatever I'd been playing with or taking apart.
Rest of the time, it was just something I thought was cool and lugged around till I fell asleep.
Six years old is a bit young to be watching wrestling, isn't it?
But then I suppose wrestling is a better than a lot of crap they play now-a-days too.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
You went for the double whammy of sleep deprivation and brain washing. Nice work!
Let me guess, it was a nice little kiddy version like Mel "I hate the Jew" Gibson's, "The Passion" ...
If the story is true, the kid needs serious professional help. Unfortunately, I doubt he'll get it. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that we're going to hear some story in the future about how iLCJA beat her nephew to death with a hammer during some kind of twisted exorcism.
It sounds to me that you are suffering from a persecution complex, and paranoia. You merely claim that your nephew’s “spirit” was tormenting your boy, without saying what. Then you apparently left the nephew on his own and maybe he felt lonely and wanted to be with you and your son. Maybe the kid wasn’t there to go all Michael Myers on you two, but was merely playing. Maybe the hammer was already there. Why is it exactly that you assume the worst in this kid?
I'm with the people who think that the hammer was for protection. imagine this: you are six years old and are staying at a strange house, that probably makes noises different from your own house. your imagination gets the better of you and your afraid of some unknown monster. So what do you want to do? Go and sleep with your aunt and cousin. Your afraid to cross the dark hallway all by yourself because whatever is making the noises might attack you(overactive imagination) so you get yourself a weapon(hammer{probably a toy hammer}) and safely cross the hallway, where you fall asleep in your aunts bed. Who wakes you up and scares the crap out of you by telling you that a demon has control of your body/spirit and then forces you to watch some religious show/movie all night. If the kid didn't have problems before he will now.
iLoveJesusChristAmen is a total idiot.
That said, I don't think her nephew is disturbed or mentally ill. My brother slept with a baseball bat up until a year ago, and he's perfectly fine. I think it's one of those 'macho' things.
Sapphire Wolf makes a good point. My son sleeps with a dull dagger, and has close to a year now. We have mentioned to his doctor. My son's doctor says that it is quite normal for 5 to 8 year old boys to have night terrors and reach for something "defensive" to protect themselves.
ILJCA is just being overreactive. She needs to comfort her newphew, and then let her sister/brother know what happened. Let them know that their son is seeking defensive items to sleep with and have it taken up with the child's medical doctor.
Although, I may have just put in to much logic and intelligence for ILJCA's brain to handle.
Y'know, I didn't even think of a toy hammer. What I thought was, if I was six years old and staying in a strange house, I'd be afraid. I'd want to stay near an adult, and have something handy with which to fight off the monsters under the bed .
I'm still a little ticked at my dad for hanging my Darth Vader costume at the foot of my bed on the wall, so that when I woke up in the middle of the night I saw a tall black silhouette looming over me. And then when my eyes focused, holy shit Darth Vader was gonna kill me ... and then I would wake up and feel both stupid and terrified. But hey, of course, I'm sure the real problem is that my father let me watch evil satanic movies like Star Wars.
As a parent, my only question is this:
Why the bloody fuck did you let him get to a hammer in the first place? He's six, for Christ's sake!
Confused?
