Televangelist Pat Robertson warned a woman on Thursday that her daughter would go to hell if she continued to live with a man who was separated from his wife because living in sin was like being a serial killer.
“My daughter is a Christian and a good person,” a viewer named Brenda told Robertson in an email. “She lives with her boyfriend and plans on marriage, but he has to get a divorce first. Will they go to hell for this sin?”
“The answer is yes!” Robertson insisted. “She’s a good person, but she’s living in adultery. That’s Hollywood. ‘Oh, he’s a good person, but he just killed five people, and he threw his mother down the steps. But he’s a good person.’”
“Nonsense!” he exclaimed. “It is adultery! She’s living with a married man who is still married, and she’s a good person? Baloney.”

The slide into insanity happened long ago for Pat. Helped, no doubt, by a big push from Bible God. Poor old Pat, I guess he's one guy who's never gonna see the light.
Like I've said, along with the non-stop crazy this is the reason why you don't ask Pat for advice about anything , especially if you and/or the person you're asking for help about are women. He'll be too busy blaming every single part of the issue on you/the person you want to help.
Will they go to hell for this sin?
No, because there's no such place except in the imagination of holier-than-thou, judgmental busy-bodies who want to tell you what they want you to do while using God as the big brother whose leg they hide behind while they stick their tongue out at people they don't like.
Because people who cheat on their spouses can't possibly be good people who've found someone else and don't know how to break off their relationship. They're all despicable, lustful sinners, who will burn in hell forever!MWAHAHAHAHA!
You know, this is not a crime and, even if we were to accept this premisse, crimes are not equal but ranked by severity.
That's not Hollywood, part of the fan base may forgive a lot but careers end over bad behavior.
Now the church hierarchy, you can break laws and ruin lives and remain holy and chaste in the system. You know this Pat, good Christian who has possibly the world record on false prophecy yet stays in good standing regardless.
Remember this one Pat, from Gods mouth to you "Mitt Romney will win by a landslide" God told you that you said, literally God. Repercussions; none.

"Until my dying day, I'll never understand this obsession with trying to control what other people do with their genitals"
It's not obsession. There's a legitimate, rational, moral interest in "what other people do with their genitals". That's why we have laws controlling sexual behaviour all the way from age of consent to public lewdness which by the way the gay pervert movement has attempted to subvert. Pat Robertson is possibly a bit prurient but basically he's right to question prevailing sexual mores which have deteriorated since liberals and gay perverts had input into sex education.
If it takes until your dying day to figure this out then you must be a slow thinker.
@John
"using God as the big brother whose leg they hide behind"
Religious folk use god to rationalise their moral views. Not my cup of tea but are they any worse than liberal atheists who base their views on "data" taken from porn sites? I've known such careless sexual liberals. There seem to be a few posting here.
@insult to rocks
"Because people who cheat on their spouses can't possibly be good people"
Depends on context. An adulterer can be anyone from a good person foolishly giving into temptation to a sexual psychopath who does not give two hoots about rules and duties. I've known three men who were serial adulterers with personality structures tending towards psychopathy even if they were not technically psychopaths.
Edit: Sangfroid
Brenda, the trick is to never ask an a-hole like Robertson what he thinks of any particular situation or person. Why give him an opening? Too few of us are willing to tell the nosy neighbors to mind their own business.
Next time, ask him if his strict interpretation applies to things like Freedom Gold Ltd.
@Anton
"There's a legitimate, rational, moral interest in "what other people do with their genitals". That's why we have laws controlling sexual behaviour all the way from age of consent to public lewdness"
That's just the thing, they don't bother with any of that because, yeah, we have laws to deal with it already. It's always consenting, legal adults in the privacy of their own homes that these types scrutinize simply for the sake of scrutinizing other people's decisions.
"which by the way the gay pervert movement has attempted to subvert."
And thank you for proving the other half of the point I made the last time I talked about Pat's brand of victim-blaming . This has absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality and you feel the need to chime in with your "gays are icky and also always the Bad Guys" bullshit anyway.
Will they go to hell for this sin?
Mom already said the daughter is a Christian, so she gets to go to heaven no matter what she's done, including being a serial killer ala Dahmer, et al. Was it the "good person" part that pisses off Pat? Because apparently, doing good works works against fundie Xtians, who should be spending 110% of their miserable lives sucking up to GAWadah!, and not "making nicey nice" to mere humans. (Evil sinners not worthy of Jesus' spit)
Or she met a man who was in the middle of leaving a relationship and had nothing to do with its breakdown. I knew someone whose wife refused him a divorce. He didn't have the money to fight her. So he just stayed married but lived with his new girlfriend for a decade.
...Hell of a mess when the guy had an unexpected heart attack and the wife tried to keep his kids with the new girlfriend from getting anything.
The difference is that one is actually evil and the other isn't.
I don't doubt that you would personally prefer killing five people and throwing your mother downstairs.
Also, is supporting segregation a sin worthy of hell? Your father's fate relies on the answer to your question, Pat.
@Anton
The problem with treating marital fidelity as some sacred cow is that often it turns to possessiveness. Those who are trapped in a bad relationship often fear that defying this fidelity standard is immoral, so they stay in and perpetuate the miserable status quo.
A relationship, an effective one that is, is not a system of mutual obligation and dependence but of mutual benefit and synergy. Because if things go to shit, the parties of the relationship need to be able to get back on their feet.
Oh c'mon Pat, have you forgotten fundie theology 101?
Being a good person doesn't get you to heaven. God sees everything good we do as filthy rags and only Jesus can get people to heaven. All this girl has to do is repent and her sins will be forgiven no matter what.
And not to mention the idiotic caller who couldn't remember that any and every sin, no matter how big or small, is worthy of condemnation to hell. "Will she go to hell for this?" You might as well have asked if she will go to hell for saying Goddammit the last time she stubbed a toe.
Pat definitely made some sort of deal, possibly inscribed in human flesh & inked in blood to remain alive & on the air as long as he has. There is simply no other reason.
The day he finally croaks I will literally celebrate, & hope he takes the others with him.
@Anton
"Those who mock fidelity cannot complain when they are betrayed."
...as opposed to the likes of Newt Gingrich, eh MRAs? Because double standards and hypocrisy don't exist among the right-wing, isn't that right Mr. Anton?
@Anton
"I've known three men who were serial adulterers with personality structures tending towards psychopathy even if they were not technically psychopaths"
I'm betting they were OK people before they had to deal with your Tea-Party, Billionaire Republican worshipping.
At least I would bet that if you weren't totally full of right-wing shit.
"personality structures"
Where'd you pull that from?
You'll be quoting Bristol Palin soon if you don't wise up to the stupid.
Nonsense! A Christian who doesn't obey Matthew 19:21, and instead of giving everything he has to the poor, he embezzles money from his own charitable fund and invests it in Blood Diamonds, where the poor are made far worse, even dead ? You're a Bible disobeying Heretic ! And you claim to be a 'good person'? Baloney!
You're living in Avarice. You can't take it with you. Matthew 16:26, Patty-boy. And no amount of your J-boy's own blood can wash clean those Gory Genocide Gems.
At least Bill Gates is doing something for the poor with most of his own wealth. And as he could pay for a steelworks to make for him a needle scaled up so a camel could walk easly through it's eye, therefore he would own Heaven. Just ask all Jews, Pat; does Romans 11:26-32 ring any bells, as you claim to have read the book that's supposedly the basis of your entire 'belie fs'...?!
I feel the same way about your god. "Oh, he's a good god, but he just flooded the world, but he just sent bears to kill a bunch of kids, but he's a good god."
Confused?
