Liberal views are in direct oppostion to the teachings of Christ.

What, you mean things like "love thy neighbour" and all that touchy-feely peace rubbish?
Yeah, jesus never said anything like that.
Uh huh... I'm sure Jesus was for not helping those in need, protecting the environment, and fighting prejudice and the injustices minorities face...
Help those who already have the means to help themselves. Screw everyone else, they're obviously lazy and deserve any hardships they face!
Christ was a liberal, you moron. He didn't stick to the old ways (which is what conservativism is), he forged a new way of thinking, a new view of the Jewish god, and founded a whole new religion.
He went against the laws and traditions he thought were wrong...like stoning women accused of adultery and money changers in the temple. He told people to forego revenge (as prescribed in the OT) and to love their neighbours and turn the other cheek.
If the words "liberal" and "conservative" had existed in their present definitions in the time of Christ, Jesus would have been labelled an extreme left-wing liberal. (And, with his boy's club, probably would have been suspected of being gay, too.)
If Jesus had been a conservative, there wouldn't be a Christian religion for you to pervert today.
LIberal views: freedom, caring for your fellow man, living in peace.
Yeah, that is just so opposed to the teachings of Jesus.
(goes to purge the irony overdose)
Here I thought he said "Christian teachings" rather than "teachings of Christ."
Two totally different things. If he'd said what I thought he'd said, he'd have been 100% right. But he could also have said, in that case, "Christian teachings are in direct opposition to the teachings of Christ."
Liberal views are also in direct oppositions to the teachings of Hitler.
"Hitler ranted that the German people were suffering at the dastardly hands of the liberals, the Jews, the Communists, and others. Ranting at the liberals, the Jews, the Communists, and others, were key parts of the Third Reich's propaganda program"
All that stuff about turning the other cheek, giving to anyone who asks, and the sheep and the goats is in direct opposition to the teachings of Christ. Here's yet more evidence, just in case anyone needed it, that Christians decide a priori what they want to believe and then cherry-pick and rewrite the Bible to fit.
I'd like to try explaining it to cclez, using Fundy Logic;
If the bible is reliable then the bible is unreliable.
If there is a God then there is no God.
Truth is fiction.
Ignorance is strength.
Yeah, loving your neighbor, giving to the poor, paying your taxes... total liebrul filth. And don't even get me started on that camel-and-the-eye-of-a-needle shit they spew.
Christ didn't give a damn about the poor, did he? Christ didn't give a damn about making life good for others; he only cared about himself. He was all about Christ, regardless of what the other guy thought. Christ said worship me and fuck everything else. You have no responsibility to the world other than to me.
Oh, wait, that's a fundie mindset, isn't it?
Christ, on the other hand, was a liberal. But, such labels didn't exist in his time, so you get to pretend and think you're getting away with it.
like helping the poor, healing the sick, loving our neighbors, and education children, wait, what?
It's always opposite day in fundy land.
Maybe Jesus did come back, and went to the biggest Christian church he could find. He's now buried somewhere on the property.
Damn pinko Jew.
"Liberal views are in direct oppostion to the teachings of Christ."
The way you define the "teachings of Christ," we're damn proud of it, too!
Which ones?, Love thy neighbour, give to the poor, or better, don't judge?
And thats the reason why certain conservative weirdos started the "Conservative Bible project".
All these liberal passages in the bible like "Love thy neighbour" or "No rich man can enter heaven" ... horrible! Shocking! So Un-Christian!
"Liberal" view: We should help poor people
When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." -Luke 18:22 New American Standard.
"Liberal" view: Religious laws shouldn't be strictly enforced.
And He said to them, "What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? -Matthew 12:11 New American Standard
"Liberal" view: War should be a last resort.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. -Matthew 5:9 New American Standard
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. -Matthew 5:44 New American Standard
Confused?
