[i agree that your interpretation of the gospel is a fairytale.
who said that the ascension is a metaphor?]
I think I just figured out the mindset that creates the atheist: everything you don't personally witness is a fairy tale!
That leads me to my newly found disbelief in history. History is a fairy tale and no one currently alive can prove that anything happened in the distant past. I am now an ahistorian. Maybe ahistory could become a future discipline for study in the schools; imagine how interesting it would be to teach kids that nothing happened in the ancient past.

Well actually he's right, we can't say anything did actually happen we didn't witness, and everyone else could be lying.
Its just fucking unlikely.
There is evidence that ancient cultures existed (pottery, buildings, etc.). The evidence of ascension does not exist outside of the Bible.
I also award you 10 points for your ad hominem/strawman combo.
Nobody to my knowledge uses history books to justify the homophobic, self righteous, pios arrogance that most fundies exhibit. The refusal of a fundie to acknowledge what is observable to all human beings does not alter reality in any way.
But we have evidence of things that happened in history. Like antiques, dinosaur bones, fossils, mummies. All you have is a bible.
If any pieces of evidence supporting your myth were found, it would make it easier for reasonable people to believe it.
You do have the myth in all its glory, whatever that's worth.
Don't believe everything you read about history, as its the victorious ones that record it....
that being said, I can't imahine a dumb fuck like this coming to that conclusion...
"I think I just figured out the mindset that creates the atheist: everything you don't personally witness is a fairy tale!"
Only those things which are obviously beyond the realm of reality and have no supporting evidence at all .

I'm sure you believe yourself to be quite clever. You're not, but I'm pretty sure you think you are.
As a history graduate student, I hope I never encounter you in person.
There are people who are trying to develop this ahistory field. They have various names. Some call them revisionists; others call them postmodernists. The revisionists, in my mind, are worse because they make claims such as "There was no Holocaust".
Anyways, we can discuss history because of the sources left behind. You know, diaries, journals, newspapers, pottery, architecture, fossils, relics, etc. All you have is a story book collected by a variety of ancient guys. There is no archaelogical evidence for the Bible's stories; there is no scientific evidence for the creation story or anything from the Bible.
Seriously, don't breed. There are already enough stupid people running around.

I think I just figured out the mindset that creates the creationist: everything you don't personally witness is a fairy tale! Sounds like the same argument fundie creationists use to reject radiometric dating: [how do you know U-238 has a half-life of 4.5 billion years?] "Who counted it for that long? (Kent Hovind - direct quote)"
There's proof that history happened, dumbass. Even better, if we get different proof that contradicts the old proof, we can scrub our old theories about what happened in the past and develop new ones!

Why don't you believe in Evolution, again?
Oh yeah, you haven't observed it.
Damn, you almost got it and failed miserably.
You are right about not believing everything written history tells us, because, just like it has been stated before, those who win are the ones who write it with their own bias.
Still, what seems to be a reasonably intelligent observation from your behalf is most likely a coincidence (like the donkey playing the flute tale).
I forget what it's called but Last Thursdayism is similar.
Don't forget, my memory could be an illusion be a douchebag of a god.
Everything before right .... now could not have happened at all.
I don't have to personally witness everything, I just need to have credible evidence in order to believe something.
We have lots of writing by different people who didn't know each other about events in the distant past, we have artifacts that we know were made by people in the distant past, and history doesn't claim anything that violates the laws of physics, biology, and common sense.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
