See, when we bring up a lot of these irrelevant issues [evolution and anything else other than the threat of Hellfire and eternal torment], we're confining ourselves to the human intellect. The place of argument. Listen to Colossians 1:21. "The ungodly are enemies of God IN THEIR MIND." That's what the Bible says: the human mind is an enemy of God. The mind is a place of hostility, enmity towards God. [...] What we must do is learn to do what Jesus did. To circumnavigate the human intellect and go directly for the conscience. I can't emphasize the importance of this.

All right, so let's focus on the conscience, then. What, exactly, is moral about creating humanity, and then punishing us for being true to the nature he instilled in us? If humanity is imperfect, what right does anyone have to expect perfection from us? Moreover, how can ANYTHING a human being can do in a finite life -- even the most horrific of crimes -- warrant an eternity of unimaginable torture?
If an infant doesn't behave by the standards we set for adults, would you condone torturing the child? If your dog doesn't hold the door open for you when you're carrying groceries in from the car, do you beat him until he's half dead? Of course not. Expecting a baby or an animal to behave by the rules we have for adult humans would be cruel, and those punishments would be extreme even for an adult who committed an infraction. If humanity is so imperfect, so stupid, next to god, why should it be judged by godly standards? Where is the morality in that?
The bible makes god sound like nothing more than a bored child kicking over an ant hill. Except, in this case, he's doing it because the ants didn't obey when he demanded they worship him, with no thought given to the fact that they had no way of understanding what he wanted from them.
Fact is, your god loses whether we focus on intellectual or moral arguments.
I'm rather fond of my intellect, thank you. I spent enough time cultivating it and I plan on continuing to do so for as long as possible, so I'm not about to throw it all away.
But if you want to be an idiot, go for it.
So god created each and every one of us with an intelligence and imagination far greater than that of any other animal, and expects us to IGNORE it?
Yet another christian who has discovered that thinking is not helpful to religion.
So, one must be stupid and/or ignorant to believe this horseshit?
Thanks for clearing that up, Ray!
"we're confining ourselves to the human intellect."
The internet was made with the human intellect, so you'd better get off.
“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”
“In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.”
Both quotes Galelio Galilei
Listen to Colossians 1:21. "The ungodly are enemies of God IN THEIR MIND." That's what the Bible says: the human mind is an enemy of God.
Ray has lapped himself on the fundie track. He's now using the bible as his strawman.
Taking your own quote at face value, you have twisted the meaning. The ungodly are the enemies - that is what the text says. It goes on to say that it is in the mind of the ungodly that this enmity dwells. You, Ray Comfort, have put your own interpretation on this by saying clearly that the human mind (and undefined, this implies all human minds!) is the enemy of god. So god intends you to be mindless? Some wicked interpretation you've got there. It might lead some astray. You cannot have an informed conscience unless you use your mind. I would go so far as to say that the mind is the seat of the conscience. So you are being a false prophet. Watch out for the flying stones. OTOH, it might make you a rich preacher, milking the congregation for their money to give to Jesus (or any intermediary).

Oh yes, Ray, we Atheists are going to burn in Hell. But only in your mind.
'Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.'
'So far as I can remember, there is not one word in the Gospels in praise of intelligence.'
-Bertrand Russell
Frontal lobe lobotomies for everyone!
Galileo was wrong I guess, because Ray Comfort must know what he's talking about when he says that the same God who endowed us with reason did so with the exact intention that we forgo its use.
That wacky God does seem to give humans a lot of abilities and inclinations that offend him. I guess he just likes punishing people.
I can't emphasize the importance of this.
Enough! I can't emphasize the importance of this enough!
For crying out loud, just try to parse the fucking thing before you publish it - it makes no goddamn sense as written! It's almost as bad as "I could[sic] care less!"
"The ungodly are enemies of God in their mind" = "the human mind is an enemy of God"?
No danger of Ray falling into the error of using his mind. He can't even read. I wonder what Bible he's looking at. The KJV says "And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in [your] mind [] by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled" (Col. 1:21)
[] some translations add [as shown]
"Listen to Colossians 1:21. "The ungodly are enemies of God IN THEIR MIND." That's what the Bible says: the human mind is an enemy of God."
You certainly have nothing to worry about, Ray. You lost your mind quite a while ago.
So, the human mind was created by God, according to these nutters.
And yet it's an enemy to God.
Oh wait, Ray Comfort. How's that banana thing working out for ya, Ray?
You know, reading this, I actually had my suspicions that it was a poe. After all, who would be stupid enough to basically say that their religion was promoting stupidity and tried to use emotional appeals to overcome rationality? Who would honestly be that stupid?
Then I read the name.
Ray Comfort certainly isn't the nastiest person out there, but he has got to be one of the most stupid people I have ever come across.
Yep, your glorious god made us with the ability to grow more intellegent, but to actually pull it off, you need to piss him off.
Great god, Ray.
I thought it was "Reason is the enemy of faith", not god hates minds.
"That's what the Bible says: the human mind is an enemy of God. The mind is a place of hostility, enmity towards God. [...] What we must do is learn to do what Jesus did. To circumnavigate the human intellect"
Ah, well, that explains it then.
At least Ray Comfort seems like a nice guy (from what I've seen so far). Fluff-brained and ultimately harmless.
Did anyone see him use a banana to "prove" that God exists? Beyond weak, beyond pathetic. Did you see Nick Gisburne's rebuttal? Hilarious. I almost rolled over laughing.

I find it quite useful to check if the scripture quotes that fundies like to throw around really say what they claim. Quite often, they do not:
Listen to Colossians 1:21. "The ungodly are enemies of God IN THEIR MIND." That's what the Bible says: the human mind is an enemy of God.
Uh, no it doesn’t. In fact, if you google that quote you can only find two results that are not this FSTDT quote. The real (KJV) quote is
And you, who were once alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, even now hath He reconciled
So Ray, either you don’t know the bible or you are a liar. Which should it be?
So, all these years you have been trying to push your so-called evidence for creation in order to stimulate people's minds you were, in fact, indulging in heresy.
You have long established yourself as a fool Ray, do not make yourself a hypocrite as well.
Or more straight out.
"They must not be allowed to think for themselves or doubt the Churchs right to command"
Even locked in more directly like that most Fundies would totally agree with that today, there are dozens of Republican figures who still insist it has to be forced upon all.
This is how Christianity was spread historically. Choice was never an option until the enlightenment.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
