"Mickey Mouse has become an awesome character, even though according to Islamic law, Mickey Mouse should be killed in all cases."

"I think this is a cool character even though I think he's against my religion"
This seems distinctly un-fundie. Weird. I'm giving it a 1, but in a good way.
As long as he restricts the killing to the cartoon characters (they come back to life, right, Kenny? ...Kenny?) and not the cartoonist, I'm okay with that.
I don't think he is using the word 'awesome' or its Arabic equivalent in the colloquial way many of you youngsters would use it; more in the sense that Christians use it to describe their deity as awesome (in other words; extremely powerful, overwhelming et cetera).
Reading the whole article does help a bit. ;)
It baffles me that this rates only a measly 3.3 on the fund-o-meter.
Wait ... what's so Haram about Mickey Mouse, now?
Are Mice on the list of Unclean animals in the Koran or something?
Well, I kinda agree with Islamic law there. If I see a giant, talking mouse in my house that wears clothes, I'm going to kill it.
Either that or just move out and call a good therapist and an exorcist....
Phedippedes: The word he uses is "3a6'iimah" or "aziima" for non-arabists, which means "great" in a variety of ways, but I think you are right. He most likely means significant, powerful, or something along those lines.
Ash gets a cookie. That's a big yes, by the way - if I had had even the slightest inclination to make some kind of effort, I would have hunted down a screencap of Judge Doom and a barrel of dip and posted that instead!
@Fishcake:
I'd agree with that image if the controversy wasn't about an image of mohammed with a bomb for a turban.
If you look at the majority of the other cartoons, they're all symbolic depictions or don't show his face, let alone wearing a bomb.
...which is why we stone a TV to death everytime that dreaded rodent should pop up on it, as we're insightful, intelligent individuals and not igonorant, "holy" book touting cavemen with less morals than a rat.
From the same article:
Mr Munajid was asked to give Islam's teaching on mice during a religious affairs programme broadcast on al-Majd TV, an Arab television network.
According to a translation prepared by the Middle East Media Research Institute, an American press monitoring service, he said: "The mouse is one of Satan's soldiers and is steered by him."
I think this idiot is worried that because of the influence of Disney's lovable depiction of an otherwise filthy pest, children would start liking mice in real life, and Allah, of course, would have none of that, for after all, mice are soldiers in Satan's army.
Fundie? Yes. Noteworthy? No.
Confused?
