OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sixteen state lawmakers have joined Rep. Rex Duncan, R-Sand Springs, in refusing a gift copy of the Quran.
The holy book of the Muslim religion was offered as a centennial gift by the Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council, made up of American Muslims from Middle East countries.
Duncan refused, saying, "Most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."

Didn't you ever have a family Christmas, Duncan? This is the correct procedure for receiving an unwanted gift:
[1] Act pleased
[2] Understand the sentiment behind the gift
[3] Smile and say thank you
[4] Let it collect dust in the closet
"Most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."
Most Christians do not accept the idea of intolerance and bigotry.
Oh, you do, Representative Duncan? Oh, I'm sorry, I must have been reading my Bible backwards.
Oklahoma doesn't need its stereotype reinforced.
Do Oklahomans endorse good old American Overkill, then? It surgically wipes out whole city blocks. Innocent women, children, dogs, cats, goldfish, canaries, whatever....
"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and ... offer him there for a burnt offering.... And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son." -- Genesis 22:2,10

Most Oklahomans are stupid morons who think that every Muslim is a bloodthirsty terrorist? Nice way to represent your people, you uneducated fool.
He's an idiot for such a tactless response. If I had been in his position, I probably would've given a half-hearted smile while accepting it before tossing aside somewhere where it'll never see the light of day.
But what the hell is with some of the comments here? Why does every mention of something having to do with Islam necessitate responses of "But, but the Bible says the same thing"? His crime is conflating a religion as a whole with the actions of literalists within its ranks. Where is he defending crazy Bible verses or American foreign policy? From this article, I see no mention of any such things.
Islam doesn't comand the killing of innocent women and children(otherwise, there wouldn't be Christians and Jewish in their territories since the Otoman empire). This man is an utter hypocrite. Even Ulfillas and many other bishops refused to translate kings because of its violence. Again, double standards, no please.
And he's an hypocrite, yes, ssdexecutor, because he's using double standards. Unless he doesn't condenm those who back Iraq war, who is killing children and women, like suggesting that the dominionist who had that "wonderful idea" are pretty much saints(and don't forget that the guys who did the atrocity of 11/9 were not BACKED BY ANY STATE WHATSOEVER).
Cool, they accepted my submission!
And yes, he is a hypocrite. Just read this.
@Chloe
According to our college newspaper (which is often heinous in its own right, and I'm quite happy to see it point this out):
Duncan and his fellow lawmakers happily accepted copies of the Bible earlier in the year from The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.
Asked about the glaring double standard, Duncan said there was no such double standard.
He said his gift from the Baptist convention “is proudly on my desk on the Capitol, and I don’t think I ever read a part of it that condones the killing of women and children in furtherance of God’s word.”
He added, “It’s one of the nicest things I’ve received in my three years in the Legislature.”
But the Bible doesn't advocate the killing of women or children, right? Oh, wait, there it is.
@Hosea 13:16
They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.
Some of these people could never spend time in London, I buy my groceries from a Muslim, my newspaper, I had muslim school friends and I love Indian, Turkish and Moroccan food mostly cooked by Muslims and I am still alive so are the rest of the people from London, Birmingham,Manchester, Glasgow and other cities with large Muslim populations.

Well, fair enough, that does make him a hypocrite. As I said, nothing in the article suggests it, and I doubt the people who made their comments before you researched Mr. Duncan as thoroughly.
In Islam, Jesus (known as Isa in Arabic, Arabic: ????), is considered one of God's most-beloved and important prophets...
In Muslim traditions, Jesus lived a perfect life of nonviolence, showing kindness to humans and animals (similar to the other Islamic prophets), without material possessions, and abstaining from sin.
You might want to read that Quran after all.

You'd be surprised how thorough most of us are, actually.
Ssdexecutor, Reread my first post. I stand by every word, especially the hypocritical part.PSMany of us overhere backtrack the articles linked for context, and then hunt for other statements or articles by and/or about the individual or group quoted before we comment. This particular individual seems to be exactly as advertised, a fundie hypocrite, magnifying the most extreme elements of Muslim faith far away while ignoring the most violent act by fundie Christians in his own house.
All religions have endorsed killing in the name of their God. Check out the Crusades...this wonderful country of ours was founded on religious tolerance and freedoms...and on diversity. That is what makes it the greatest country in America. What these lawmakers are doing goes against the true ideals of our country and I would hope all Americans, Oklahoman's included, would understand how this racism is damaging our dealings with each other and the world. Racism is based on ignorance and fear...further study should be done by people in high profile positions before making such comments that are obviously not well thought out or researched. Please lawmakers go back to your desks and study the Muslim religion before making these ridiculous accusations, and please don't include the people's of Oklahoma in with your intolerance.
Confused?
