(Discussing Ms Marvel, a Pakistani-American Superhero.)
Meanwhile, the one and only person on the team with a clear religious identity is the Muslim girl. This is a religion which has, whether anyone admits it or not, declared war on the whole world, and has, whether anyone says so or not, adopted terrorism and stealth jihad as the main means to wage that war.
This is the same as if, during World War Two, a comic book made one of their heroines a member of the Nazi party. But one of the those nice Nazi party members who do not approve of Hitler, or the other official doctrines, written in the official literature, of the organization to which she willingly belongs. Such a comic character would appeal to the moderate Nazis whom we do not wish to alienate, since, after all, Hitler highjacked the noble institution and motives of the Party.

You DO make Nazis heroes. You defend them all the time John.
"moderate Nazis whom we do not wish to alienate, since, after all, Hitler highjacked the noble institution and motives of the Party."
Today Nazi party is not a moderate version, whatever the fuck that would be, they revere, even worship Adolf and Company.
The curtains not remotely hiding what you are John.
This is a religion which has, whether anyone admits it or not, declared war on the whole world, and has, whether anyone says so or not, adopted terrorism and stealth jihad as the main means to wage that war.
There's 1.6 billion Muslims alive today. If your statement were anywhere near true, the world would be a much nastier place. I'd also like to point out that most of the people suffering from Islamic fundamentalist terrorism are themselves Muslim. Islam isn't any more monolithic than Christianity or any other religion.
Yeah, comparing a religion followed by one-and-a-half billion people, with all the differences in practise and belief that will ensue from those numbers, to a dictatorial institution like the Nazi Party is just idiotic. You can't say "all Muslims believe this" or "all Christians believe that" because there's nothing that actually dictates what they have to believe. Conversely, saying "all Nazis believe this" is a pretty legit statement, because the Party has a set of beliefs you have to follow or get ejected/executed.
In more succinct terms, you are an imbecile and your analogy fails.

...meanwhile, Storm: descendant of an African Witch-Queen.
First appearance in Marvel's "X-Men" in 1975.
Time to crawl out from under that stone, pal. [/David J. Stewart]
Superman. As envisioned by another John: Cleese, as in Monty Python :

This is the same as if, instead of Kal-El's capsule crash-landing in Smallville in the US, DC made it do the same: only in Weston-Super -Mare in the UK.
But one of those nice society members who approves of Truth, Justice, and the British Way, written in the official literature of DC to which he belongs. Such a comic character would appeal to the moderate Brits - including Muslims - whom you do not wish to alienate, since, after all Hitler hijacked the noble institution and motives of villainy :

Haven't really read comics in a long time, but have been hearing all these sorts of buzzes and new developments. And, honestly if someone is complaining about the new Ms. Marvel being Muslim, were they putting heaps of praise on the staunchly Catholic Nightcrawler? I think he may not be quite as devout a Catholic because of some crazy comic plot, but he's still really religious. If I'm wrong on that, happy to be corrected. But, that development certainly doesn't negate his decades long run of being a good Catholic.
And, hm. Actually reading the article kind of makes it worse. Few questions from me.
1. Is this a new title or a revamp of the original. If a new title, what on Earth is the problem. Still have old team.
2. When he names all the previously white characters it kind of undermines the point he is trying to make. If all these characters do exist still (and most do if I'm not mistaken) what's the problem?
3. Was there moral outrage when the predominately white cast had members like Ant-Man (serial wife abuser, who also was either a drunk or drug user? Maybe on last one, totally yes on wife abuser), Iron Man (womanizing drunkard), Wolverine (chain smoker, heavy drinker, violent, womanizer) Spider Man (ruins his marriage to grant Aunt May a couple more years of life by making a deal with the fucking devil)?
4. Where does he get "No white people are heroes, Christians are only bad guys." from? I think that aside from this new Ms. Marvel and Nightcrawler, most comic book characters aren't really religious one way or the other, and this includes villains. There aren't really many Muslim villains (they do exist) nor are there many Christian villains. At least blatantly. I mean, most comics are set in the US so while the majority of people would likely be at least marginally Christian, they aren't portrayed as being evil Christians. The closest two I can think of was the Church of Humanity (a pseudo Christian cult) and possibly whatever strained Nightcrawler's faith (if I am remembering that correctly)
So.. bit rambling, but in short, this guy is full of shit.
A better comparison would not be a heroic Nazi but a German American soldier. While the new Ms Marvel is a Muslim she's not an extremist, she does not live in the middle east and she does not support them. It is closer to say if a world war two war comic had a German American and a Japanese American fighting with us. I think there were comics where that happened.
Wright is possibly the most pompous person on the internet - and he's making pronouncements on comic books? And kids' cartoons?
Not that I have anything against adults who read comics and watch cartoons, but come on, he thinks he's some kind of intellectual. What a wanker.
I've fallen behind in my readings, but at the time I left off, Kamala was working solo. Did she join a team, or is this guy just blowing smoke?
Heh. Funny how if you remove the word "Muslim" from the opening statement it suddenly becomes utterly impossible to determine whether the girl in question is a Christian or a Muslim without a deeper familiarity with the character.
You're both members of religions that look forward to and support ushering in the end of the world, John. You don't get to throw around accusations of "being at war with the world" when you hold to the same doctrine of hatred for the world.
This is the same as if, during World War Two, a comic book made one of their heroines a member of the Nazi party.
Because, presumably, there were thousands of Marvel Comics readers who were members of the Nazi Party.

Meanwhile, you don't notice all the Christians, as they are The Norm to you.
This is a religion which is VERY closely related to yours, and it was the height of knowledge while Christians were busy killing each others over the CORRECT way of worshiping God. Now the Muslims are busy killing each other over the CORRECT way of worshiping Allah. They are just doing the exact same thing we were doing, some six or seven hundred years ago.
You do know that the Nazis considered themselves as Doing God's Work, right? So, it's rather "one of those nice Christian Nazis".
The people who oppose those "moderate Nazis" in Europe today are usually called Cultural Marxists, or Social Justice Warriors, or Politically Correct, and we also have something called the Opinion Corridor, which apparently don't allow the "moderate Nazis" to spout their hatred, although they spout their hatred loudly and widely every single day on the Net. And, "no-one is allowed to wave the Swedish Flag any more" , but during today's wedding between the Swedish Prince Carl Philip and his fiance Sofia (now Princess Sofia) millions of people were waving the flag, both in Stockholm, in Älvdalen (where she grew up), and among royalists in the rest of Sweden. (I am, needless to say, not a royalist; I think they could well have paid for their own wedding, and I think it's enough with a prime minister as head of state.) I still think that if they want to wave a flag, go right ahead! I like our flag; it's the color of the bright sun and the clear blue sky.
But the Jews, as a collective, declared war on Nazi Germany in the 1930s. Did you not hear? Any comic of the time that portrayed a generous Jewish hero would have belittled the Germans who had to deal with such extremism. As well all know, all religions are of a hive mind.
The message is pretty clear from John here and many like him.
He's trying to suggest that there is no moderate Islamic beliefs, only hardcore Jihadist ones. It's this hugely dishonest vilifying practice the RW wants to encourage full on war with all muslims, foreign and domestic. It's people like him that demand every Mosque issue a statement of condemnation and shame for every act of violence from their entire race or place of birth.
They hate when the media even attempts to represent them as anything else. even if their Christians or Atheist the message is still they're not to be believed or trusted.
Meanwhile Christian bikers destroy a Jewish business and leave behind Nazi symbols and curses and no one in Christianity or the White race need feel connected, even those who cheer such actions. Just some good olde Moderate Nazi shenanigans, after all.
"A religion which has declared war on the whole world?"
Meanwhile, of course, Christianity never tries to impose its beliefs on anyone.
I'd say it's closer to the socialists. They started off with philosophy that was accommodating, even if some advocated violent upheaval. That doesn't mean most socialists are violent or advocate commie governments. In fact, socialists have often been the commies' worst enemies. Yet socialists are held to another standard to account for Stalin and his crew.
Confused?
