Larry Hooper was killed for being an atheist. His brutal murder, perpetrated at the hands Arthur Shelton, a Christian and Eagle scout, was justified simply because he was an atheist.
The trial began with the taped phone call Arthur Shelton placed to the Taylor police department in Taylor, Michigan, October 18, 2004, at precisely 12:44 AM. Shelton sounded calm and pridefull when he told the dispatcher he had just shot "the devil himself" with a revolver and a shotgun because "he (Hooper) didn't believe in God." Shelton told the dispatcher he was "still armed and ready to shoot again in case he moves. I want to make sure he's gone." When the dispatcher asked how many times he shot the victim Shelton replied, "hopefully enough."

To Illuvatarwen:
Ah, don't you worry! I like nice, sane, moderate people like you, no matter what they believe, and I'm sure everyone else here does too. We know not all Christians are fundie nutjobs.
Die, flayed and in a bath of brine.
Illuvatarwen, don't apologise to us, start screaming at the fucking retards who claim to represent what your religion is to actually practise what they "follow", like go rot in Rwanda helping the mud chill'uns. They'll be out of our hair, and maybe they'll actually learn about suffering and humility.Either that, or the Rwandans will feed them to their pigs.
Is there a link to something definitely credible about this? A quick google search didn't turn up anything remotely looking like a real newssource... I know it's old, but still, I'm afraid some of the more fundy christians on the forum I visit will wave it away, and personally, I prefer linking to a newssite for news...
Nekhbet, what tipped you off, the local militia?Charleston Heston speaking for the NRA in Flint after an accidental gun death involving two kids?
I have a love/hate relationship with this, one of the most tragic states.Just look at the ties Michigan has to both Columbine and the Oklahoma City Bombings.Sometimes, it seems crazy white folks use it as their dumping ground for the more extreme nutjobs.
I agree that this guy was delusional. He actually said that Hooper had fire and smoke coming from his eyes.
I also agree with the judge who handed down the high-end sentence of 25-45 years, of which 25 must be served before consideration of parole. Shelton was 50 at the time of the trial, so in his own words, this is as good as a life sentence.

Damn, too bad. I'm sure the more rabid fundies on my forum will complain about "unverifiable, biased" sources if I link to the link you provided.
Oh well, knowing them, they'd just pull a No True Scotsman anyway.
I am almost constantly dealt reasons to be ashamed that I'm and Eagle Scout, but this is just sick and frightening. Everybody here knows that not all scouts are homophobic, psycho fundies, right? Right?!?
But yeah, fuck this douche.
Looks like he did what the bile commands:
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Romans 1:30-32
That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
2 Chronicles 15:13
I'm sure God will be pleased with him.
Wait, if this guy really was the Devil, wouldn't he absolutely believe in God? You know, having been his best friend all those years before they had their fight?
I'm new to this site, a former Catholic, now agnostic who really doesn't care who people worship as long as they don't use their religion as an excuse to be ass, and some of these quotes are supporting my plan to quit the human race and move to Saturn. I don't want to admit to being of the same species as some of these people. ._. I know that not all Christians are completely batshit- I'm wasn't, two of my closest friends are Christian and they aren't- quotes like this are probably the reason that people run away from my friends.
And I do realize that the article the quote came from was against the murder, but learning the whole circumstances of it- ew!
So, by chance, is this website the Deep Thoughts of Jack Handy? Cause this is absurdly evil, only unlike the real deep thoughts of Jack Handy, this is not funny.
I'm an Eagle Scout. This guy gives us a bad name. Of course, I'm also nominally Jewish, but really areligious, so maybe I'm doign the whole Boy Scout thing wrong. Who knows?
Is there a low-speed version of the electric chair legally available for this guy? Please... Tell me there is...
Illuvatarwen, like many before me have said, don't apologize for someone else... Even if I find christianity basically unfounded or else founded in evil I understand that christian's are not that. In practice the religion evolves around the evolution of morals in order to keep itself from dying thus we have two extremes, the fundies and the relatively evolved. This guy is just a manifestation of the worst of those two extremes and his obsolete morals are not yours, that I understand... I just wish he is made to feel hell on earth before death takes him away... An innocent life was lost on his wickedness. Certainly this is no laughing matter.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
