“What’s this nonsense about oppressed this, oppressed that’?” Savage said on his program on Wednesday. “The most oppressed member of society, as I’ve said before and I’m willing to stand by this again: The most ridiculed, the most oppressed member of society today is the straight, heterosexual, white, male Christian. Period.”
1) This is merely another example of someone making a statement that, though demonstrably false, is now beyond all argument because the OP ended his diatribe with the word, "period."
2) I don't believe in SJW positions such as that white people should feel any guilt for the crimes of our ancestors, but nor can we sanitise our history. We need to learn from history, not beat ourselves or anyone else down.
3) Yes, let's talk about privilege. That term is just a fancy way of saying you're a lot more likely to be given benefit of the doubt during social interactions than is a person without the same privilege.
Let's say a white man commits some horrible atrocity such as child rape and murder - and he's a total sociopath with no capacity to empathize with anyone. He happily admits he'd do his crimes again if given a chance.
Other white men don't need to worry about being painted with the same brush as our hypothetical nutcase above. There's no uptick in the number of times white men get pulled over, even if the nutcase used a car in his crime. They don't have to think, "Great; we're set back now because that idiot's behaviour has cast a pall of suspicion over all of us."
No one has to point out that his actions, however heinous, should not be used as a whip against other people who come from the same ethnic background, or who live in the same social class, as him.
No one has to point out, "Not all white men are like Robert Pickton so please stop targeting them for harassment."
